Neighbourhood: Ile de la Cité
Two islands sit in the middle of the Seine at the very heart of Paris. The more majestic one, Ile de la Cité, sparkles with history. This is the birthplace of Paris, the home of the Gothic Sainte-Chapelle, and the site of the prison where Marie Antoinette was held before her execution. Tourists flock to see the iconic Notre Dame and the beautiful bridges that straddle the Seine. Ile Saint-Louis, the more provincial island, welcomes you with cozy traditional eateries, small boutiques, and what some people say is the best ice cream in the city. This is essential Paris from its very beginnings to its modern appeal.

It occupies the western tip of Ile de la Cité, delimiting downstream Paris. It is located downstream of the Pont-Neuf (1578-1604), below the equestrian statue of Henry IV. It was demolished in 1792 and replaced (during the Restoration) by the present monument, melted in the bronze of the 1st statue of the Vendôme column.

This is a charming square at the tip of Ile de la Cite, under the statue of King Henri. In the summertime the willow trees are green and lovely. In the winter, the entire park can be flooded. Lovers come here at night to neck.

Situated off the Pont Neuf (opposite Henri IV statue) you take the stairway down toward the Cruise Boats. Go straight past them to a grassy park with many benches lining the sides of the triangle. Perfect spot for a picnic lunch--pick up sandwich and wine from Samarataine Store nearby and relax. You will have au pairs with their charges, lunchtime lovers and musicians for company, especially if you wander to the tip. Never crowded and always pleasant. Square du Verte Galant

Pictures from the tip of the park.
Chilled place, huge tree with cool shade, the tip is good for picnic at the right timings. Not crowded but to get the tip spot you have to awkwardly wait for the occupants you find there to finish up so you can occupy the space too and be sure that someone else from the blues will be invisibly waiting for you to do the same. You only notice this when you leave the spot and people move in immediately

Whilst exploring Paris we walked over 'Pont Neuf' bridge. In the
middle of bridge is the new place where everyone puts love locks. As the Pont des Arts Bridge has removed all the locks and put up perspex to prevent locks going back on due to the excessive weight on the bridge. Was incredible to see! And no we never put one on! If you look hard enough in photo's you'll see two guys there unlocking locks with wire and taking the locks.

Erected in tribute to Henri IV and his numerous mistresses, the Square du Vert Galant obtained the ‘Espace vert écologique' (ecological green space) label in 2007. And with good reason, the square has an impressive fauna and flora considering it is situated in the centre of the capital. Consequently, the Square du Vert Galant has become one of the most popular places for romantic strolls where loving couples enjoy little boat trips and wonderful views of the Seine, the Musée du Louvre and the Hôtel de la Monnaie.

this square (square means in french a very small garden) is at the very end of the "ile de la cité" ...to sit there is just like to sit at the prowl of a ship as it's at the junction of the two arms of the river....this square is absolutely near everything 200 meters to Notre Dame Cathedral 200 meters from the latin quarter 200 meters from the forum des halles....500 meters from the beaubourg museum and about this distance from the orsay museum ! in other words a place to rest if the sun shines between visits......"vert galant" means "woman-lover" and that was the nickname of french king henri 4 (died in 1610) whose statue is at the middle of the pont neuf (the name of a famous bridge in paris....pont neuf means new bridge although it is actually the..oldest of the city !!)...just behind the statue you ll find the stairs to the garden
you can reach the square with bus 27 58 and 70 but except for the 27 (coming from the opera) the 3 others stop on the left bank so you ll have to walk 50 meters to the garden

This tiny tip of Pont Neuf may be the perfect spot to sit with some wine and cheese and watch the life on the Seine from both banks, all while sitting under the fairy-like branches of a weeping willow. A great place to rest for a bit if you are sightseeing between Isle-de-la-Cite and either bank.

This charming small square is located at the western tip of the Ile de la Cite. The numerous benches under the trees make this lovely little park an ideal place to sit back and relax after a day spent exploring the Ile de la Cite, its rich history, and wonderful architecture. The park provides gorgeous views of the River Seine and its beautiful bridges. Despite being located in the busy heart of Paris, this romantic square is really quiet, with a relaxed atmosphere. A visit is highly recommended.

Square du Vert-Galant is a beautiful little park occupying the western tip of the Île de la Cité. Steps lead down from Pont Neuf to the park. The embankments on either side of the square are perfect for sitting upon to take in the lovely views of the Seine.
