About
Also known as Marché Richard Lenoir, this market is one of the biggest markets in Paris, stretching along the Boulevard Richard-Lenoir and across the Place de la Bastille. Twice a week, you can stroll through rows of shops selling everything from fresh produce like vegetables, fruits, and meats, to mouthwatering French "street food" such as pastries and crepes. The market is also a shopper's paradise, offering a variety of items from clothes to kitchenware and even artwork. Be sure to prepare cash and brush up on your bargaining skills. Start your market day early to grab the best local produce as most shops close by early afternoon. – Tripadvisor

I especially liked the stall with beautiful scarves made from remnants of silk. I was there after 1pm so some of the vendors were breaking down their stalls but there was still plenty to see.Visited October 2023Travelled soloWritten 6 October 2023
- J E1Atlanta, Georgia117 contributionsA big Parisian marketThe Bastille market is located on Boulevard Richard Lenoir and it extends from rue Amelot to rue Saint Sabin. It is a big market with many fruit and vegetable stalls, meat, cheese, clothing, kitchen knick knacks, scarves, and seafood. We enjoyed it and I recommend it but I rated 4 rather than 5 because I felt the concrete areas that the market is covering needed cleaning. Would be better if the city would hose down the bird debris off the benches, and clean up bedded areas before the market. Nevertheless, I still recommend the marketand particularly enjoyed the guitar player entertaining the crowds.Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 15 October 2023

We bought food to snack in our room. We also bought lavender from a farmer who sells it loose or in sachets. We also purchased homemade soaps. These will make wonderful gifts. We hoped for maybe tie dye tee shirts or handwoven textiles but there were none to be found. We are going again to see more.Visited April 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 20 April 2024

My daughter and I decided to visit the market on a Sunday morning while on vacation. We had the absolute best time wandering the stalls and looking at the delicious food and various items to shop for. We bought some homemade soaps, some homemade jams, bread, etc. I bought a very unique handmade purse as well. I believe the market is only a couple of days a week, but if you are in Paris, and want to visit a great Market, I recommend this.

This year round, mostly food market is a delicious outing. Immense amount of choice, good prices, clean and with friendly service. It serves regular Parisiens who come in huge numbers to get their fresh fruit, veg, cheeses, flowers, seafood and meat, etc. We stocked up on olives, hummus, tapenade and blood oranges. All delicious. There are excellent prepared food stalls as well to provide a relaxed lunch break on the spot.

We went early Sunday morning and arrived as the stalls were being set up. It was amazing to see all of the fresh fruit and veges and all the seafood. Big variety of things being sold. Market was a little smaller than expected but still worth a visit

Big fan of Marche Bastille. It's such a large market with various vendors and shops, from fresh groceries to food/drink to meat/fish to flowers and arts/crafts. Loved watching each vendor working hard, and the different offerings available. There are a few places that offered fresh oysters, which was delicious.

I bought several cashmere wraps and all-cotton scarves from the nicest “scarf lady” at the Sunday Bastille Market. I went back to buy more as gifts on the next Thursday. I accidentally left my coin purse there while I was paying, and the purse has sentimental value. I went back again days later to see if, by chance, she had found it, and she had! She gave it to me, complete with all the money. Please find her if you need gifts for friends at home! She wouldn’t let me take her picture, but she and her husband are from the Punjab area of India. They are fabulous!

Now that I'm home from Paris I see that I had bookmarked this market. I didn't remember when I was there but stumbled across it the Sunday morning I was there as they were setting up. It was very impressive. I bought a gift for a friend and would have spent more time but had to go wake up my friend who had overslept for our museum tickets.

This was our first open air market and was really cool. My daughter was hooked and it is her favorite way to shop in Paris.
Our friends who live in Paris go every Sunday for lunch and shopping and we tagged along. We got crepes and raw oysters and fruit and some souvenirs and this is one place where you do need cash instead of cards.
I wouldn't go out of my way to go to this one, but find a market during your time in Paris for sure.

One of the best outdoor markets in the city, a good place to buy some food for your apartment. Try to have a little conversation with the sellers as it will make a big difference. Tell them how you want to serve the food. Not open everyday.

Hi, is the market open on Easter Sunday? Thank you
Written 9 April 2022
Hi does anyone know the market opens on boxing day 26 Dec this year? It's a Thursday but I'm not sure. Thanks!
Written 21 July 2019
Should be open. It's a holiday celebrated in London--not in Paris.
Hope that helps.

Hi! Some of the vendors do take credit cards now! There's at least on farm-stand, and the prepared product vendors usually take cards too. The wine merchant accepts cards, but the champagne vendor does not. The lovely fellow who sells churros definitely does not! :) But he's worth the wait regardless.
Enjoy!

Markets open around 8 am and close around 2 PM but many sellers start to pack up around. I suggest you get their mid morning the Bastille is very large. Also less crowded Thursday .

I love flowers and plan on purchasing some when visiting the market. My question is on the signs there is the price and it says la botte which translates to the boot. I have worked in the flower industry for years and I have no idea what they mean by boot. Anyone know?

I got curious about the word la botte and checked Wiktionary. The expression la botte have various meanings and one of them "a bundle (of flowers)".

Thx a lot

Bastille market is... a market. You can buy fruits, vegetables, flowers, fish and different kinds of meats. You can purchase bread or sample various kitchens. If you're looking for cheap make-up, look elsewhere.
