So every city has a red light district, a seedier area with sex shops, strip clubs etc and this is it for Paris but don't be dismayed because it is safe to walk around and you don't want to miss selfies in front of the Moulin Rouge, do you? There are also restaurants and cafes here, just like you'd expect... More

Don't waste your time going there. I was at Monmartre and decided to take a look at the famous Pigalle. The area looks dangerous and unsafe. Try to avoid that place.

We visited the Pigalle district during the daytime on our short visit to Paris with expectations of it being one of the seedier areas of the city. Indeed there were a scattering of sex shops and other businesses offering services of an adult nature. However, we also found some excellent and reasonably priced bars ( For Paris standards) and found... More

Pitfalls is a rather infamous place historically speaking for its ties to prostitution. These day most of an action takes place inside colorful establishments scattered around. Despite its reputation, it's rather safe.

Close to the iconic Montmartre, you'll come across many tourists taking pictures in front of Moulin Rouge (metro station Blanche). The street is filled with fast foods, gift shops and sex shops all the way to metro station Anvers. Now if you've been to Amsterdam, you shouldn't be shocked. Yes, there are sex shops, and it is a little sleazy,... More

A little tawdry...a little sleazy and a little fun. Pigalle is a neighborhood of restaurants, bars, sex shoppes and cabarets including the famous Moulin Rouge...home of the can-can. Stay outta the alleyways after dark and beware of the scams.

While this is a convenient location to other parts of Paris. The area is still quite grimy and gritty. Particularly on rue de Clichy. We had an Airbnb apt there although it was advertised as being in Montmarte. It was definitely not in Montmarte. I'm told the area is changing with more families and professionals though there are still a... More

Staying in Montmartre

Neighbourhood Profile
Montmartre is a bustling mix of cultures, colours, and styles which changes from one street to another. Ride the funicular (or, for a real workout, climb the steps) to the sublime Sacré-Coeur (Basilica of the Sacred Heart) with its inspiring view of the city. The church is surrounded by provincial streets and piano bars where tourists, artists, and street entertainers thrive. At the foot of the hill, Boulevard de Clichy features shops not intended for young audiences, while residences are scattered to the north and east. The diverse population includes a large part from the Arab-speaking world, Africa, and Turkey. It’s a corner of Paris full of life and dynamism with charms that can’t be found anywhere else.
