I used Paris metro system during our 6 days stay in Paris. The metro system and the trains were excellent. You can reach almost everywhere in no time. If you are a tourist, better to buy a 3 day or 5 day visite pass than obtaining single tickets. Its cheaper. All the stations have tickets machines, so you can choose your language... More

Paris commuters may hate the Metro, but for a visitor, it's a godsend and a necessity. It covers most of the city, certainly the places you will visit. Fast and inexpensive. Fairly easy to figure out with lots of easy-to-read maps. Note the maps of the neighborhoods you see as you exit the station. The fare and ticket machines could... More

As long as you have a good metro map, know the destination of the train you need on each line you use and watch out for the colour coded signs which keep you on the right 'track' it is brilliant. the trains are largely clean, somewhat wanting in comfort and ON TIME!

Metro was great but if you purchase any of the tickets for a number of days and it has a space to write your name and dates of travel make sure you fill it in. Just had 35 Euros penalty fare from over zealous ticket inspector because I hadn't filled it in. No amount of explaining that nobody told me... More

I was shocked at the state of the metro in Paris. I wasn't really expecting anything but boy, I wasn't prepared for this! I bought a carnet of tickets from the machine after realizing I couldn't pay in the manned booth with cash which is fine. I saw many people just jump over the barriers and no one tried to... More

Be very very attentive to pickpockets. We stayed 5 days in Paris and 3h before our flight back home, just when we were already taking our way to the airport someone took our wallet and we just found ourselves without documents. Of course we had money but our concern was that we were just without documents to go back home... More

Before travelling to Paris we purchased a 3 day transport (Metro/RER/bus) ticket each, the first and fifth day's were for arriving and leaving, taking the local bus for the 2 mile journey at 2 euros each. The sights of Paris, especially the Eiffel Tower can be quite spread out. The metro system is very efficient and clean ( did you... More

The Metro was easy to use with only a few different train lines running through the city all crossing each other, while in other major cities they have many train lines that can be confusing. The trains came frequently, even during non-peak hour times and they seemed to travel quite speedily. The actual carriages are cleaner than most other cities... More

You're never too far from a Metro in Paris. Like all big cities, it is easy to negotiate and reasonably priced.
