Neighbourhood: Ile de la Cité
Two islands sit in the middle of the Seine at the very heart of Paris. The more majestic one, Ile de la Cité, sparkles with history. This is the birthplace of Paris, the home of the Gothic Sainte-Chapelle, and the site of the prison where Marie Antoinette was held before her execution. Tourists flock to see the iconic Notre Dame and the beautiful bridges that straddle the Seine. Ile Saint-Louis, the more provincial island, welcomes you with cozy traditional eateries, small boutiques, and what some people say is the best ice cream in the city. This is essential Paris from its very beginnings to its modern appeal.

Walking down Boulevard De Palais on Île De La Cité I passed this great looking building ,seen it many times over the years and it still impressers me.
A judicial centre and a courthouse ,it's building that occupies large area's of the former medieval Palais De La Cité,it's an imposing structure, when viewed straight on you take in the full majesty of the building with it's ornate and beautiful gates and railings ,it's adjacent to Sainte Chappelle and so is a very photogenic building ,well worth checking out of you're visiting Île De La Cité and easy to locate along Boulevard De Palais.

Maybe we just did it wrong, but it didn’t seem like there was much to do. No audio guide or tour. there was a graduation of some sort that day. Pretty from outside but really no need to go in.

This building has ornate games and one would think it is the entrance to Sainte-Chappelle but it is not -- the chapel is next door and security guards will politely point you in the right direction. However, when exiting Sainte-Chappelle, this is gate from which you exit which is a bit odd. Next door is Conciergerie.

It's been cleaned up so it looks better. But I still resent the destruction of 1/3 of Place Dauphine to create this court building. Most of the court activity has moved to another part of the city.

The Justice Palace is housed in this magnificent building, next to the Conciergerie.
Despite being heavily guarded, it is possible to take some photos.

This is where the big courts are and it is a grand 19th Century building. A lot of medieval homes were destroyed to make room for this, urban renewal. Not especially picturesque, but important.

The Palais de Justice de Paris is a large complex of buildings. We visited the Conciergerie and Sainte Chapelle and also had a look around several other parts of the complex. There are law courts in this place as well and many police and other military style officers guard the whole complex. Worth a visit.

It's a good idea to visit Palais de Justice when you visit Sainte Chappelle and it's free! It's required to go through the security check point, the same entrance as going to Sainte Chappelle.

The building next to the Conciergerie is the Palais de Justice de Paris. This was the place where justice was heard and dispensed since medieval times. It was also used as the Parliment of Paris during the French Revolution. Now it is off limits to public and you can take photos front of its gilded gates.

Palais de justice is a striking building on the Ile de la Cite in Paris. It houses the Law Courts and is part of the former royal residence, adjacent to the Sainte Chapel and Consiergerie.
However, during my several visits I've never reached further than the ornate main gate, so I suppose it's not open to public.
