This last trip to Paris we stayed on the Island and it was wonderful. It is it's own little community and has some very interesting shopping, nice restaurants, grocery store, liquor store, etc. etc. The views from the edges of the island, (particularly the view of Notre Dame) are wonderful particularly at night. If you can get a hotel on... More

I found this hotel to have the Paris charm I was looking for. The room was comfortable and had all of the amenities I desired. There is an electric kettle and a nice provision of beverages. They even give complimentary cookies. I appreciated the glass mugs for coffee. The shower was good and the bed comfortable. The gentleman at the... More

There is not very much to see here, but it is a nice break from all the action in the city just a few blocks away. Take photos of the traditional buildings and enjoy the view from the park at the end of the island.

Ile St. Louis is a charming little neighbourhood that is quiet. atmospheric and bursting with history. Essentially one long street with myriad quaint shops, restaurants and hotels it's well worth a daytime stroll, or better still a restaurant dinner and a walk back across Pontt Saint Louis where there is a wonderful accordionist - ask him to play La Vie... There are shops and places to eat but not "in your face" like you find on Île de la Cité with Notre Dame, etc. If you're looking for a quiet spot to relax...you will find it here.

Tiny island behind Ile de la Cite, mostly residential and parkland. It's a quiet oasis in the center of Paris

There's a corner in Ile Saint-Louis where the Pont Saint-Louis crosses over to Ile Cite that has a cafe on every corner. I could happily spend an entire day (week) circulating around those cafes until each one booted me on to the next just drinking cappuccinos, reading a book, and people watching. This is one of the most interesting spots... More

Right in the middle of the city I came across the center of the city on my first day in Paris - Notre Dame, Saint Chappelle - both must sees and with a short walk of each other - cool little tourist food places and awesome views.

Visit Île Saint-Louis after visiting Notre Dame on Île de la Cité (walk to the back of Notre Dame then across the pedestrian bridge to Île Saint-Louis. Stop at the St. Regis Cafe, directly across from the bridge.

I'd highly recommend de Neville. Great chocolate and macaroons. The streets remind me of Copenhagen which I love. Just do it! Since you'll be by the Notre dame. Do that, then go to the memorial des martyrs across the street, then take a walk on this island.

Staying in Ile de la Cite / Ile Saint-Louis

Neighbourhood Profile
Ile de la Cite / Ile Saint-Louis
Two islands sit in the middle of the Seine at the very heart of Paris. The more majestic one, Ile de la Cité, sparkles with history. This is the birthplace of Paris, the home of the Gothic Sainte-Chapelle, and the site of the prison where Marie Antoinette was held before her execution. Tourists flock to see the iconic Notre Dame and the beautiful bridges that straddle the Seine. Ile Saint-Louis, the more provincial island, welcomes you with cozy traditional eateries, small boutiques, and what some people say is the best ice cream in the city. This is essential Paris from its very beginnings to its modern appeal.
