The beautiful and peaceful Ile Saint-Louis is like a little village in the heart of Paris. Life seems running slower here. Walk around the island, The restaurants and cafes are great. The views of Notre Dame and the Seine is beautiful. If you are lucky enough like us, while having a drink in a corner cafe you can listen to... More

We stayed on the Ile. Loved the feel of the place, with lots of lovely little shops and plenty of restaurants. Great location for a holiday

This is a great location for the romantics and the artists right in the heart of Paris. There are some local cafes and bistros and places just to enjoy the city.

Ile Saint-Louis is the perfect place to relax and see the cafes and bistros, small shops with wonderful prices, beautiful apartments, not to mention the most famous ice cream shop . It is a stone's throw from Notre Dame and San Chapelle yet much more relaxed with a definite local flavor. The hotel prices are more than over the bridge... More

We love walking down the main street of this tiny island. There is the cutest kitchen shop with objects you never see in the states, we always bring home something. It also has great places for a nice lunch.

Quaint island in the middle of the Seine River. Great restaurants, bistros and cafes. Eat with the locals, enjoy wine. Just a stones throw to the beautiful Notre Dame Cathedral.

Staying on Ile Saint-Louis is like staying in a little village. The pace is slower. The restaurants great. The views of Notre Dame and the Seine can't be beat. I particularly loved the plaques on many of the buildings telling the history of people who once resided there.

My husband and I walked from our apartment to the Ile Saint-Louis and then onto Notre Dame most morning as a lovely way to start our days. We had breakfast here a couple of times as well.

Its quite hard to understand the Ile Saint Louis is an island at first. As you cross the bridge you seem to be on the other side of the river, its only when you walk a few hundred yards to cross another bridge you realise you have just crossed the narrow island. Its very pretty and has lots of places... More

This visit was noticeably more quiet in the winter and with a light rain falling. It is very enjoyable to wander the main street filled with shops, galleries, bistros, cafes and ice cream shops. The aromas are enticing. If you seek a sweet gift for someone special you can find all types of items for scarves to toys to jewelry.... More

Staying in Ile de la Cite / Ile Saint-Louis

Neighbourhood Profile
Ile de la Cite / Ile Saint-Louis
Two islands sit in the middle of the Seine at the very heart of Paris. The more majestic one, Ile de la Cité, sparkles with history. This is the birthplace of Paris, the home of the Gothic Sainte-Chapelle, and the site of the prison where Marie Antoinette was held before her execution. Tourists flock to see the iconic Notre Dame and the beautiful bridges that straddle the Seine. Ile Saint-Louis, the more provincial island, welcomes you with cozy traditional eateries, small boutiques, and what some people say is the best ice cream in the city. This is essential Paris from its very beginnings to its modern appeal.
