Montparnasse is the area around the large modern office tower. Montmartre is where the artists used to live and right behind Sacre Coeur. If you are reading the reviews that state the artist area and Sacre Coeur is spectacular, the reviewer is confused.

Montparnasse was the meeting place of well known artists, as Picasso to Serge Gainsbourg, in the Roaring Twenties, who had chosen the famous Dome, Coupole and Closerie des Lilas as their prefered cafes; all bohemians were there, in the center of artists.

The roof of this tower is an open deck, with opening to 4 sides. On each side, there's a map of Paris' important buildings that can be seen from that direction. Amazing recognize the buildings from above. Very nice viewing.

Who wants to climb Tour Eiffell and watch the Paris without Tour Eiffell? It's not logical. Go at the top of the Montparnasse! It's higher than Eiffell and your view is unbelievable! My advise is to go there at the sunset (best time) in a clear weather and stay to see Paris in dark.

It takes long time to get to this side of Paris, but I want to see the tower and get to the top - than I was a little bit frustrated when I get here. Its the tallest building in the center to see the Eiffel tower from another view. But an the day we want to go to the... More

Great food, Sacre Cour, and many artists selling wares on the street. I can't imagine going to Paris without going here

Get yourself to the observation deck at Montparnasse, well worth the view of the city. We did it at sunset and it was breathtaking to take in the view of Paris while the city transformed from day to night. An easy train ride from anywhere in Paris

Of course it's beautiful, like most places in Paris, offering great views. But be warned that (just like a lot of places in Paris too) it's veeery expensive to eat or drink something there.

Staying in Montparnasse

Neighbourhood Profile
The namesake tower of Montparnasse dominates over the landscape but the fun part is the throbbing life that goes on below it. Bright lights, busy cinemas, brasseries and diners encompass hidden museums and parks to entertain the masses. Long avenues lead away from the tower to take you to unsuspecting places and historical monuments and treasures. In between lie adorable ivy-covered houses with beams and small gardens to match. Just a short metro ride away from the centre of Paris this neighbourhood has something for every hour of the day.
