this was an amazing experience in that the market was incredibly huge and, like the souks in morocco, you could get lost while looking at all the wares through the winding alleys and streets…that being said, i found the prices rather high and the majority of ceramic items i was looking at were cracked or chipped and not of any high quality… may be down some other alleys there were high end pieces but i didnt find them in the area i was looking in and was content to just experience the market itself

Several reviews and photos are referring to the much larger flea market called Saint Ouen, just north of the 18arr of Paris. Vanves is infinitesimal in comparison. That means you can see it all in an hour, but also much less variety. There is not much else in the immediate vicinity of interest. Worth visiting if your hotel is nearby or you are just a big fan of flea market shopping.

If you are looking for something out of the ordinary to do in Paris- this Antique/Flea Market is one of the world's largest and does not disappoint. Not in the loveliest part of the city but once you are in the Market area it is fascinating - for those that love antiques/oddities/people watching - this has it all. It is possible to spend a very long time here between the crowded alleyways and the enormous amount of things to look at. If you are a collector of just about anything- you can probably find it here OR start a new collection. Just walking around is an adventure!

The biggest flea market in the world, consisting of six, I believe, indoor pavilions bearing different names. Anything and everything you can possibly dream of, starting from vintage clothing and bric-a-brack, to museum quality works of art selling for tens of thousands of dollars. Bring your interest, time and money. You can easily spend a day here, eating lunch at one of the authentic French restaurants, and listening to live music at the bars. Easily reachable by metro, and since large part of it is covered, you can come here even if it rains. Enjoy!

Haven't been in the last two years, but will be going next week. Always a treat to hear Roland play his piano. I hope he is still there and well. I have always found dealers willing to negotiate, provided you are reasonable, polite, and friendly. On one trip, I made enough purchases to need having a crate made to send them back to the US. Very expensive, but I have never regretted my purchases.

Its a proper flea market - definitely worth a visit. I would say 3-400 stalls with a variety of goods as always, it was the last weekend in August so I wondered if there would be a lot of stallholders there. Some decent bargains to be had, especially in glass and paintings and junky jewellery. As others have said it starts to close up around 12. You can get a coffee or lunch at the metro station and its on the RER so easy to get around. We will come back next time we are in Paris for sure.

This is a large show of Paris old and new. You can stroll from vendor to vendor and be amazed at what they have to offer. Do not miss the lace. garterbelts. and such from the ladies of the night.A lot to see at a good euro. I have returned again and again!

It always seem to rain when I visit Porte de Vavnes. It has been a while since I last visited and in the past I have picked up some lovely little souvenirs. However this time I was really disappointed and came away empty handed.
I don't think I will return even in the sunshine.

Is the Puce Vanves only open til 1pm? so best to get there early? Was planning to go to catacombs same day early, but maybe flea market first and then catacombs?

Every time I went to Puces des Vanves most vendors left around 1pm. Last time I was in Paris - last May - I got there at 8 am and many stands were ready to go. So it's probably a good idea to do the flea market first and the catacombs after. Have fun!

Hi, when does this market run? I will be coming to Paris from June 1-10.

Hi,
The market at Vanves runs every weekend morning, all year. If I were you, and in Paris in early June, I'd look at "Aladin" online for "Ile de France" to see what brocantes are going on. Some of the "vide greniers" can be better places to find good stuff at v. reasonable prices than most flea markets.

Can I find nice shoes at the street market.

Nice shoes? Not likely. Vanves has 2 markets, one really an antique market, old and collectible items, in the mornings, and in the afternoon, there's a market selling cheap things, many imported from China.
On Sunday mornings there is a market at Malakoff where a couple sell new good-quality walking shoes (not high fashion but comfortable, many of them made in Italy) . (Malakoff is just south of Vanves, at the Malakoff-Plateau de Vanves métro).

Hi, Does anyone know if you noticed suitcases for sale? Wanting to buy a cheap one to bring home with the things I'll be shopping for in Paris . I figure I could pick up a cheap one and it would be less than the airline charges for bringing a second checked bag .

You might find better suitcases at Carrefour supermarket. At least they would be lighter in weight. Those at the flea market are usually vintage types which tend to be very heavy. Also, it is not a sure thing that you will find one. It is hit and miss. I would suggest you back a small empty duffel bag in your suitcase. You could line your suitcase with it and place all your clothes in it and simply remove the clothes at your destination and voila- an empty duffel bag. Enjoy your trip.

Hi,
We enjoy the Marché aux Puces at Vanves but, while they have interesting antiques and collectibles, it's not a place to buy used suitcases. The best place we've found is Rayon d'Or, 178 rue du Temple, métro Temple or Répubique, where they sell good sturdy suitcases, new, at low prices. It's always our go-to place if a zipper quits working shortly before a trip.
Bon voyage!
