There are larger Asian Art Museums in the world, but none so well curated. They have some magnificent pieces, and some very unusual ones. Very well-organized. Not being huge is good in this case: you get the time to really absorb the artistry and energy of the sculptural pieces, especially. Well-organized. If you have the Paris Museum Pass, you will... Two temporary exhibitions are worth the visit. Beautiful kimonos from late 17th century to nowadays have been lent by japanese Matsuzakaya store. Quite crowded but worth the wait. The second exhibition is about Alexandra David Néel, famous adventurer in Tibet. Artefacts are mostly lent by the museum in Digne. With the same ticket fee , one can visit the gorgeous... More

If you like Asian art this is a must see museum. It has a huge number of wonderful Asian statues. The amount of English explanations was surprisingly small, the museum could do a much better job for tourists. The rooms had a card near the entrance of each room with some English but the individual pieces had mostly French. However... More

The Guimet museum has always been incredibly beautiful but it has seriously improved since its renovation. The recent exhibition on lacquers was stunning and so are the permanent collections. A must

This very impressive museum is not only for art lovers but for people who want to learn and see the amazing cultural heritage of Asia over many centuries. When you remark how old some of this outstanding pieces are you can only open your eyes and mind in admiration.

This is a must-see for anyone interested in Asian culture. Formerly a mansion, a very successful renovation a number of years ago makes this a beautiful and airy space. The permanent collection is excellent, but the temporary shows are usually very good as well.

I went at 10am when it opened and there was already a small queue to enter. There are some wonderful pieces in this museum, especially the religious pieces for me. There was a visiting exhibit on the top floor and a film explains how the artistic painted the pictures. Felt very serene within the museum and the period covered in... More

You will find a huge collection of Asian art spanning many centuries. You can get a free audio guide in English. Most of the art is sculpture and it is amazing that it has survived for centuries.

Staying in Trocadero

Neighbourhood Profile
Trocadero
This is the neighbourhood of grand and impressive Haussmann-designed apartments and buildings. National museums overlook the Eiffel Tower and embassies fill the avenues and streets. Locals head to the butcher, florist, or bakery on their daily rounds amidst luxury and splendour, all with a view over Paris and its most famous tower. Snuggled in between the grand buildings are small art galleries and homes of historical significance. With a rich legacy from 19th century politics, art, and architecture, you can’t help but be reminded of the belle époque, the Universal Exhibitions and the nobility that have frequented and shaped these streets.
