Somewhat out of the main stream of tourists, we were lucky to have accommodation in the neighborhood of the canal. We very much enjoyed nearby pubs and restaurants, bakeries etc. and especially sitting down by the canal with a bottle of wine and a baguette,...More

We walked up and down the canal. Great place to walk. We stopped to get drinks along the way. At the top of the canal is a floating brewery paname

Is this a bad neighborhood? It doesn't appear to be, and yet there is graffiti everywhere. It's just depressing. Any other city or town would make this interesting canal the center of the universe, but in Paris, it is just the ugly step-child of the...More

One of my favorite areas of Paris, this beautiful canal is lined with trees and some lovely buildings, closed by beautiful bridges. Take the slow barge cruise down to the Seine and go through the locks, watch the water level rise and fall. Chic restaurants...More

Canal St. Martin offers a nice quiet location away from the hustle and bustle of the city to enjoy a nice walk with family. The area was apparently a little run down but no longer with families out enjoying the day.

We have been hearing about plans to clean up the waterways of major cities so that people can swim in their waters. Many plans; few accomplishments. Paris did it! On Monday, Paris’s Mayor Anne Hidalgo opened-up new open-air swimming enclosure in the Bassin de la...More

Having travelled by boat along the canal on our last visit to Paris about three years ago and being intrigued by the air vents with trailing vines in the tunnel part we decided to go for a walk on top of the canal to investigate...More

Beautiful canal and bridges with the jardin villemin next door for a stroll, picnic and see Parisienne families at play. The canal waters are high so you can if you like take your shoes off and dip your feet in. People sit and have a...More

We loved cruising on this Paris canal. Napoleons was unpopular with the citizens of Paris. What could he do.? The citizens had one liter of water per day. Napoleons created canals to provide more drinking water for the people. Parisians ❤️ Napoleon. If you don't...More

I was staying not too far from Canal St. Martin, so I walked about 8 blocks up the street to check it out. It's kind of cool, in a way, the whole canal thing with buildings around it and such. But it's not a HAVE...More

Canal Saint-Martin
The tree-lined Canal Saint-Martin is the focal point
of one of the most romantic and hip areas of Paris.
Watch boats travel along the canal while lovers and
friends take in the atmosphere from the banks or the
bridges. Evenings see hoards fill the embankments to
drink wine and enjoy good company. The colder days
lead people to hipster bars, cozy restaurants, and
concert spaces. Those who are more adventurous may
