We decided to walk from our hotel Hotel Lorette Astotel to town. On the way we passed by the Notre-Dame de Lorette Church and decided to check it out. There was a nativity crib at the side of the altar which was nicely done. The church was a bit old and undergoing renovation.

The beautiful church of Notre-Dame de Lorette is a must visit when you're in Paris. We visited in November 2018 and there was no crowd.

Extremely beautiful church! Some corner is under rejuvination right now due to alot of old paintings that got chipped off or fade away, but you will still have a great time looking at a big portion that are still visible ♥️ beautiful church definitely worth the trip!

This building does stand out as the prominent structure on the street- next to the metro entrance. We noticed this as we were walking by. As a matter of fact, it was near the Grand Synagogue that we tried (unsuccessfully) to visit.

We came upon this church when we stopped at the Metro station while on our way back to the hotel.

We went in and did a quick look at this church. Since this church was so close by to our hotel we thought that we might come back and take a better look and tour at a later time. However we did not come back because our schedule was tight with many other places to visit.

Years ago I stumbled upon this lovely church while strolling in the 9th. There was a wedding being celebrated and the couple were slightly older. It was beautifully clear that they loved each other and were loved by the small collection of friends who were in attendance. The setting could not have been more appropriate (I congratulate the bride of her choice!) for such an occasion because the church is intimate and warm. I have never returned to Paris with finding my way there. I pray each day and my prayers have followed that couple. I pray that they have found joy and happiness in their marriage.

I don't recommend going here on a Sunday morning immediately after a mass unless prepared for a children's playground. When I entered during this period recently, a few adults talked with a priest or each other while youngsters scurried to and fro. One girl, about 8-years-old, rode her scooter up and down the aisles. Two boys got into a fight, with one pummeling the other. Another lad went to the altar and shouted into a microphone at a nearby lectern. Six children chased each other, shrieking and laughing. This is not what I expected when I climbed the steps to this neoclassical structure that resembles an ancient Greek temple. But 10 minutes later, the scene became serene.

I could gaze around the now-empty church without distractions. The beautiful blue-and-white coffered ceiling immediately caught my eye. Murals grace the walls and columns display Ionic capitals. The piece de resistance in this 1836 church, however, is the newly restored Baptisms Chapel. Part of the Paris Cultural Heritage Restoration Plan, the stunning artwork on the chapel's walls and ceiling feature beautiful, clear paintings again devoid of dust, dirt and oxidized varnish. A pamphlet gives visitors information about the plan and what has been accomplished here. This reclaimed section of the church makes the need for additional work in the interior especially obvious.

The exterior also needs a good clean-up. Its facade includes a pediment with sculptured figures representing faith, hope and charity and four massive columns. When walking up Rue Laffitte toward the church, I found a perfect photo op. The domes of Sacre-Coeur loomed in the distance above Notre-Dame de Lorette.

The church stands at the bottom of rue des Martyrs and above the Notre-Dame de Lorette Metro stop on line 12.

Impressive 19th century church that has undergone (and is undergoing) renovation. Quite different from what you might expect – this is not the Gothic of Notre Dame de Paris but a style that resembles classical Roman and Greek architecture. Vibrantly colored wall paintings. It is the gold-painted wooden ceiling that attracts the most attention with its intricate geometric designs. Apparently the richness of its artwork – it seems at times to be an art gallery rather than a church – was a bit scandalous when the church was built because it was so different from traditional religious art. Worth a visit, however short.
