Well worth a visit if you're in Fontainebleau. I was in awe as I moved from room to room and learned about the history of the castle. It wasn't etremely full so we comfortably moved through the tour and lingered as long as we liked. I couldn't experience everything though as my feet were killing me! I have to remember to... More

Great day out - much smaller than Versailles and seemed more personal. Not too many people so you had time to look carefully at whatever took your interest. Very good value for money at 7.50 €, gardens free. Various nice restaurants in the square surrounding for lunch, or tea if required, but I also saw people taking picnics into the... More

Wow...we were very excited to go to this Chateau. I knew from their website that the Napoleon museum would be closed. Disappointing, but at least we knew that. However, NOT listed on their site was the fact that the Pope's apartment would also be closed until June! And the Madame de something's apartment is now a small museum of some... More

Great self guided tour with arrows directing you through rooms and good explanations in each room. Great to see the furnishings of the time and beautiful green space in gardens. Easy to spend a whole morning exploring!

Visiting chateau can err on the boring side and the chateau de Fontainebleau is no exception but the history...all the queens of France stayed there plus a lot of Napoleon history....it is well worth a visit...the grounds are lovely and the town is great. Visit on a Friday, Sunday or Tuesday and the markets are wonderful

I went in early May - and practically had the place to myself! Such a nice change from the sardine-packed craziness of somewhere like Versailles. This is such a majestic place, with stunning architecture, incredible history and rich interiors...well worth the short train ride from Paris. I bought a Mobilis zone 1-5 ticket from the Metro ticket booth in Paris... More

Easy to find this Palace - right in the middle of town and well worth visiting. Each room was more and more extravagant, learning about the French aristocracy and their connection to other European royalty through exhibitions of armour, clothing, paintings, decorations, wooden etchings & carvings, floor embellishments and it just goes on and on. I took many photos but... More

The royal summer home, and a Chateau just as grand as Versailles in my opinion. We went on a busy day (free first Sunday) and didn't have any problem with crowds and seeing what we wanted to see. Ride the RER to Fontainebleau station, jump on the linea 1 bus, and enjoy a 2-3 hour adventure away from the huge... More

The castle was amazing in so many respects...the grounds, the rooms, and decor and historic artifacts. Well worth a leisurely visit. I would have wished that I had more time to visit the extensive grounds surrounding the castle. You are in for a nice experience.
