What a disappointment this was. The commentary accompanying the journey was barely audible. We had walked most of the route already so didn't see anything new until we reached the Citadel. There were no photo opportunities and so we decided to walk back. I believe...More

When I have a fews days in a new place, I tend to do the Hop-On, Hop-Off bus (or similar) so I can get a lay of the land, see the sights, and have an idea of what I might want to go back and...More

There is audio commentary to accompany the train tour. Languages available are French and English. However, you may need to remind the driver to turn it on. He forgot until half way through our tour.

Besancon's inner city is quite small, flat, and easily doable on foot. To go up to the Citadelle is another matter - here you can take bus number 27, and go back the same way, for a fraction of the train's price

The petite train pick-up point, in a parking lot near a row of restaurants housed in quaint old buildings, looks unimposing. However, they moment you pass through the first old city gate and enter historical Besancon, the magic begins. The train is the best way...More

The very best way to visit the old center without walking. It takes you al the way to the Citadel (Zoo) where you can spend a full day. This city is old but so well kept. A must do on your way to the south...More
