An outstanding experience! We booked online, and arrived for a 10AM tour and tasting. The tour was conducted wonderfully by a knowledgeable guide, and the cellars are quite beautiful. The tasting was superb, with very generous pours of some fascinating and delicious wines. Their wines are truly unique among producers because of the oak barrel ageing, and well worth visiting for the superb value. We were also very appreciative that our dog (carried in a small backpack) was welcomed through the entire tour and tasting.
A lovely experience, and we will certainly be back to stock up every time we are nearby!!

A visit to Alfred Gratien in Épernay with close friends became an illuminating voyage into the artful world of champagne creation. Right from the warm welcome, our guide, a beacon of knowledge and good humour, unravelled the elegant and complex world of champagne before us. Not only did we explore the nuanced flavors and aromas of their exquisite champagnes, but we were also privileged to witness the meticulous bottling process firsthand. Watching the bottles being filled, sealed, and labeled with such precision provided a unique and captivating insight into the dedication and craftsmanship that Alfred Gratien pours into every single bottle. Coupled with a deep dive into the rich history of champagne and its making, this tour effortlessly blended the educational with the experiential, making every sip thereafter a reminder of the intricate processes we observed. A hearty salute to the entire team at Alfred Gratien for not merely crafting impeccable champagnes but also for facilitating an experience that bubbles over with knowledge, joy, and unforgettable memories!

By chance there was just the four of us for this tour and tasting, probably not surprising on a cold February Thursday morning. Amanda provided a thoroughly enjoyable and informative tour, taking in all the processes along the way. Our tasting was very generous and resulted in two modest orders which made it worthwhile for all parties. Its a shame some of the wine makers in Burgundy don't try and make visits to their premises as worthwhile and enjoyable at pre buying stage.

I thought I’d booked a tour and tasting but in actual fact I’d booked just a tasting... this wasn’t known until after the tour and tasting as I was paying €10 more each than I was expecting. Not to worry, the tour was informative but very fast paced. Our guide clearly knew her stuff, but it came across a little too forceful thus ruling out many questions.
The tasting was excellent. Two champagnes, 1 vintage and 1 regular NV. We tried a couple from the mid 2000’s and their current NV. Good champagnes, however they are some of the more expensive should you decide to buy them.

Had an interesting tour (perfect English). Then taste champagne. That was announced as something educational and interesting. However, the lady left us completely to our own devices because all the attention suddenly went to a group of Norwegian sommeliers. She finally left to take these important guests to lunch. After all, trade comes first. We looked at each other and left. Illusion poorer. Experience richer with a larger 'brand'. We will never go there again.

Alfred Gratien was our last stop after 4 days in Reims and Épernay...and I might even say we saved the best for last. After several days and LOTS of champagne tasting, we did a champagne and cheese pairing and truly loved it. I arranged it by email in advance, but I believe the pairing can be booked at champagne bookings.com too. The host was lovely. She first poured us 4 champagnes to try on their own. A few minutes later, she brought 4 cheeses to pair. It was a lot of fun to see how the taste of the cheese and the wine transformed when paired together. I’m not sure if other houses offer this, but we didn’t see it at any of the other houses we visited. One of our favorite stops, and I wholeheartedly recommend it. We loved the champagne and ordered a case to send home to the USA.

We booked the visit through champagnebooking.com and were very pleased with the visit. We had not planned a tour but at the last minute the woman working there asked us if we minded joining the tour with another small group. It turned out to be very informative. The wines were outstanding and we wished we could buy more, but no room in the suitcase. Don’t miss this place if you want to visit a smaller producer.

A smaller champagne house two streets back from the Av. de. Champagne. One of the few to not use stainless vats, all done in barrels, they use about 100,000 of them. You won't even find this in Waitrose, interestingly recently been taken over by a German sparkling drinks concern who have injected much needed funds. Well worth a visit.

We loved the tasting here. You can do a tasting of Champagne only or a tasting pairing champagne with food. Cellar tours also available, but we didn’t do the tour.
