You should comme and visit the old town.In the lower part you'll find a very well preserved and typical city, the workig part of the location.Whereas in the center you will enjoy the religious part.

This is such a sweet town with a magnificent Cathedral. Definitely worth your time to view a walk back in time.

The Chartres Cathedral may be dominant in the city - and without question the most valuable sight to see. Chartres is big enough to host more modern parts, but the older historic quarters are of course charming and genuine and nice for a tourist to stroll around.

There was a good feel about the historical part of the town and preservation works have worked well. It's easy to send a pleasant hour or so just wandering about.

Walk all around the town and be delighted by the wonderful old houses - some timbered - winding narrow streets, and gracious inhabitants. A delight!

Chartres is about 1 hour on the train from Paris, has one of the great cathedrals of the world and a medieval town centre. It is well worth a visit if you have the time.. To get there: go to Montparnasse train station, the ticket machines are on the upper floor and there is an English language option. Find the platform on the indicator situated on the floor below - make sure you know where the train terminates as it may not list Chartres On arrival in Chartres check the return train times at the station, then walk up the hill about 7 mins towards the cathedral. It's worth going to the tourist office nearby, situated in a medieval half timbered building, to get a free walking map of the medieval centre. The cathedral is magnificent and has a Labyrinth which you can walk. Walk alongside the canal to see some interesting old buildings and stop at Le Café Serpente for an excellent coffee. Don't forget to validate your return ticket when you take the train back to Paris.

Come to see the stunning and magnificent Chartres Cathedral but also explore the old areas that are considered a preservation district. It is a very pleasant walking area and the atmosphere is great. Nice shops and good restaurants can be easily found as you explore the old streets.

Chartres has one of the greatest Gothic Cathedrals in the world and the city is delight with wonderful vistas every where you go. The historic center is beautifully preserved and the flood light displays are magnificent. THe city of Chartres and the cathedral deserve at least a few days in any visit to this area of France
