Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Booked this tour through the Tourist Office and was told we have confirmation for the English tour at 4:30pm. When we showed up for the 4:30pm tour, we were advised by the guide that because we were the only English speakers of the 16 participants that he would prefer to do it in French and we will have the opportunity to ask questions when we reached the top! Wtf….it was a paid tour so we asked him if we can reschedule for an English tour if that’s possible. We were informed that it’s not possible as the tour is actually done in French and English (but it was better for him to just do French). So we asked if he can do it in both French and English because we couldn’t understand French and would not have any questions to ask him if we have no clue what he’s saying. So reluctantly, he did the tour in both French and English but we could tell the English version was much shortened as we only got a few sentences here and there. My husband couldn’t understand him at all as he spoked very fast with an accent. Also, there were too many people on the stairs so whatever he pointed out in the front, the rest of the people in the back cannot see or hear. Basically, we just paid for the view at the top. It was cold and raining so once we got the the top is wasn’t as spectacular as other reviews have indicated. Just bad luck.
This tour might have been better with less people and actually done in English. Maybe you will have better luck than we did.

Dear Sir, Dear Madam, We are terribly sorry to hear about the experience you had at the Tower of Philip the Good. First of all, we would like to apologize for the misconduct of our staff. The visit is definitely supposed to be made in French and in English simultaneously, even if of course it means that the historical presentation will be shortened in both languages. Please be assured that our manager has been informed of your notice and that we’ll pass on your feedback to all our staff. Concerning the number of persons admitted inside the Tower, it is limited to 18 visitors due to safety reasons. We try to speak audibly and we admit that it is not always easy, especially in medieval staircases, but we do our best to welcome as many visitors as possible. This visit is largely requested and many tourists just can’t find available places for it. This is of course no apology for a low standard of visit, and we thank you for giving us a faithful feedback about your experience. We are engaged in a quality approach and take care about our visitors’ notices. We hope that in spite of this incident you enjoyed your stay in Dijon and look forward to welcoming you again in the future. Sincerely

You have to book the visit in advance. The sooner the better. We are a group of 7 and only 6 could fit in one group. No exceptions, one more people would be dangerous or degrade the quality of the tour.
The tour is in both English and in French. This makes the whole experience cluttered. It would be way better to have separate tours in different languages.

The view from the tower is not bad, but also not breathtaking. Really if you want to do it, book a few days in advance.

Dear Madam, Thank you for your feedback. Our staff speaks English and the visit of the Tower can be translated if necessary. We are sorry if you didn't get enough historical comments and we are going to check with our staff that there is no misunderstanding about the level of service we wish to offer to our visitors. Besides, the visit is limited to 18 people maximum for security reasons, that's why we always recommend to book in advance and especially if you were a group of 7. We were not able to accept one more person, in compliance with the French law. In general, our visitors really enjoy this visit. Yours sincerely

This is a walk up the tower called tour Phillip le Bon. Go to tourist office at the palace to book the tour. Can’t be done without booking. Cost is 5 euros. The tour takes about 20mins and includes some interesting facts about the tower. Ours was in English but I think it depends on how many French speakers are in group. At the TOP of the tower you get incredible views of Dijon.

We booked to go on this visit up the Philippe le Bon tower at the tourist office, as it is impossible to visit otherwise. Tickets cost 3 euros, which I felt was a fair price. There were about fifteen of us on the tour, and the guide made a point of checking the nationalities of the participants, and as a result, our tour was bilingual French/English. The guide gave interesting facts about the history of the tower (all linked to the Dukes of Burgundy), and pointed out architectural features/decorations. The views from the top of the tower were superb in every direction - well worth the climb up the 316 steps!

I have never managed to get a ticket to climb the tower. They do not seem to operate many times in the winter months.

Tour Philippe le Bon is a great way to view Dijon and the Grand Cru hillside towards Beaune. You need to book a 45 minute tour at the nearby Tourist Office for 3 euros. The tour guide gives some history of the tower.

This was well worth doing for the wonderful views over Dijon. It was an informative tour up all those stairs and even though we were the only non-French speaking people on the tour the guide kindly gave us commentary in English as well.

As you climb the 300 stairs to the top of the tower, the guide will stop the group and explain certain landings and decorations. Lots of Burgundy history and suitable for both adults and kids.
At the top you have a wonderful view of Dijon and the surrounding hills.
It's part of the Pass Dijon Côtes de Nuit pass (16€) or 3€ on it's own.

Tower tour needs to be booked at tourist information. Operates in French/English - the guide was very good and happy to accommodate in English. However feel like you miss a lot a detail when the majority of the tourists are French. View good - climb not too arduous.

Paid 5 euros for guided tour. We were given a leaflet in english by the guide.
We were 3 english speaking in a group of 8 people. The guide only spoke French so we had no idea what was being pointed out as we walked up the 316 internal steps
Once at the top of the tower the views are great but this was spoilt by the fact you get 10 mins at the top then told to walk back down again. The guide also doesn't point out anything at all during the time at the top.
Not sure the point of a guide really, you basically walk up some stairs then walk back down again after spending 10 minutes admiring the panorama and reading the leaflet.
Done it once, wouldn't do it again
