Considering a cathedral is grandiose by definition, I consider this one nice with its higher than average ceiling and some nice stained glasses and architectural elements but there are some inconsistencies and imperfections which cause this cathedral to lack some warmth and special something. There is also no cafes, restaurants or services nearby.

We arrived and started to look around, just as an elderly gentleman, key in hand, started locking up. He joked that we could stay the night if we wanted to.

Not far from the hotel I was staying at, hotel Le Maxime, took about 5 minutes walk. A beautiful structure and even at awe once you go into the actual cathedral. It is free, but 3 Euros to go and see the crypt. I believe the crypt was constructed between 1023 and 1030. So worth a visit to see centuries... More

There were several aspects of this cathedral that made it worth seeing. The stained glass windows are brilliant, several still have bullet holes from you-know-what war. The crypt is dated about 1100's but isn't really a crypt as it has no bodies buried there. Free.

Like almost everything in France, this cathedral suffered during the French Revolution. And other historical events meant that the second tower was never built, leaving the façade a little cockeyed. But then you enter through the rich, intricately-carved Western portal, and the soaring gothic interior rises majestically above you. The light floods in through the stained glass and stunning rose... More

Spent 20 minutes walking round. Cool and relaxed and worth a look. A little bit of history and a moment to reflect. Some nice windows.

Stunning architecture, looming in amongst a beautiful town. It was definitely worth a look round and to think back about all that has gone on before. Very impressive.

Centrally located and dominating the sky line of Auxerre when viewed from any of the bridges over the river worth visiting for the excellent stained glass windows.

Auxerre has many churches. This is the best, in my opinion. 13c entrance is quite fantastic. Useful (free) guide in English inside.
