We paid a supplement for Laugerie when touring Grottes du Gran Roc. It actually proved to be our favorite part of the visit. The signage was excellent and it provided us with a much better understanding of the life of Cro-magnon. The site is stunning. If you are tall (6'2" in my case), watch out for your head.

This is a double site covering the Grotte du Grand Roc and the prehistoric dwellings of Laugerie-Basse. In the Grotte du Roc there are fascinating examples of stalagtites and stalagmites and some beautiful examples of crystalline formations. The English guide (Elizabeth) gives an excellent description and tour of the caves and makes the experience a fascinating insight into these underground... More

Interesting take on how prehistoric man may have lived. This part of the visit started with an interesting 3D video, explaining in some detail what you were about to see in Laugerie Basse, which certainly helped make it more interesting. Only worth visiting if you also visit Grand Roc or are passing with 30 minutes to spare.

The landscape of this prehistoric site, and especially the local guide giving all the informations about heating the water, and make the huts warm, also about hunting and la cuisine de la prehistoire, made the visit unforgettable!

A very typical french restaurant with limited menus but very friendly and welcoming. Disliked having to go to a separate building to use the toilets. Difficult access for the disabled.

There are many caves and geological finds in this area of France. The best part of this visit was the initial movie, giving the history of Laugerie Bass. Many big finds have come from here. The first part of the tour, the cave of stalactites and stalagmites was interesting but small compared to others in the area. The guide decided... More

I purchased a double ticket for the cave tour and the village exhibit. The caves for fine, but I was not interested in stalactites and stalagmites, which is all you see there. The village is an interesting diorama of how early humans could have lived, but does not take much time to view.

We enjoyed this brief walk-through of a small cave, without any art, and of an area under a rock overhang where prehistoric people once lived. There's no art here now, however, and not a lot to see other than the Vezere River below. A good introductory slide show is available which describes a bit of the geology of the area,... More
