Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The Burgundy Gate is one of the 6 famous gates that the city proposes visitors to visit. This is one of the last to be added to the old walls and the one further north, looking at the Burgundy region, hence its name.
For us it was the first one we saw because right around it we transferred the tram that brought us from the airport. If you made a ranking of the 6 doors, it would rank third.

It is one of the six entrance gates to the city that were in Bordeaux when it was a walled city and our first vision of it was through the windows of the tram, without knowing what it really was and represented, but it would serve as an orientation for us. for our days in the city. It is located in front of the stone bridge on its left bank and at the beginning of Cours Victor Hugo, being built to replace a medieval gate and in honor of the duke of the same name. And although it is not as striking as others, it is worth visiting to see it and from there access an area with many small Arab businesses and a lot of activity.

This is a stone arch structure build in 1757 on the Left Bank of the Garonne River. It is one of the six remaining old gates to the city was the official entrance into Bordeaux for the old road from Paris in centuries past.
Passing through Porte de Bourgogne you find yourself on Cours Victor Hugo today. You can view the structure which was listed as a National Monument (1921) quite well on both sides. Definitely worth a few minutes viewing while sightseeing around the Golden Triangle area of Bordeaux.

This is a very impressive arc de triomphe, a gate into the older part of town. You will want to find the right place to take a photo and that is about it.

This was the "main entrance" for the common people to enter the city many years ago as opposed to the "Calihau" entrance used by commerce for goods coming into the city.

Triumphal arches are very French and are scattered all over the country. Bordeaux has one, at Quai Richelieu on the Garonne River, at the foot of the Pont de Pierre/Stone Bridge. A gateway into the medieval city walls, the Porte de Bourgogne marked the start or end of the road to Paris, now Cours Victor Hugo. The arch is a later embellishment, designed in 1750 by Andre Portier and dedicated in 1757 by the Duke of Burgundy. It is now a classified historic monument. It is on the map as a busy road intersection and tram stop.

This stone arch was uilt in 1757 - it was the official entrance to the city on the old road from Paris. If you come by Pont de Pierre from the right bank of Garonne river, the Porte de Bourgogne is straight ahead when leaving the bridge.

Another historic landmark built in the 1750's in Roman Style. It is the Gateway to the historic old town. It began as the Road to Paris...now named Cours Victor Hugo. As we enter it is a whole different part of Bordeaux...a bit run down.

It's definitely impressive in size. Looks like most of the arches throughout France. This one is located in an intersection so it was hard to get really good photos. Definitely one of the better preserved arches in France. I totally recommend seeing all the arches and clock tower too.

Hi, to answer your question - no, it's an actual landmark not on the riverfront at all, though it's just a short walk from the riverfront.
Trams or light rail number A and C go right by it, also bus numbers 24, 45 and C go by the landmark as well.
