This is a fine example of a fortified gate with 2 towers which also functioned as a prison. One of the 2 clocks has an unusual semi circular dial while the other clock shows the different phases of the moon. The gate itself is also known as Porte Saint James by those pilgrims passing through Bordeaux on their pilgrimage to... More

Worth the detour as it is located in a nice Street and it is a quite unusual well preserved construction.

The clock tower is not located in the "historic" center but it is very easy to visit it and to take some photos. It is beautiful to see it in the day but it is also beautiful in the night with the amazing lights on.

This is very nice to see if you walk by it. It's not in the main touristic area. I believe you can even visit it. But it's not a main attraction. So don't worry if you miss it.

The tower is beautiful in the day and at night. It's a lovely walk down from Place de la Bourse via Rue du Pas St Georges and Rue St James to Grosse Cloche.

Not to be missed, the bell and tower are very beautiful and certainly worth a quick visit and a few photos.

This is a massive bell tower located adjacent to the Eglise Saint Eloi. The tower is quite imposing, and you can appreciate the bell best from the Rue Saint James.

As we spend a lot of time walking around on our breaks we came across this, it was at night and it was stunning. I loved it it was just a wee bit down a side street and was fantastically illuminated. well worth a look.

and yes it does chime. Anyone remotely interested in stonework or horology should spend a few minutes looking at it from all directions. It is quite difficult to photograph by the way because if the sun is strong you will miss the detail. I suggest early morning is a good time. We arrived after the rather mysterious opening arrangements had... More
