Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This review is more about the neighborhood than the plaza. We spent 6 days in Bordeaux, exploring the entire historic district. On our first day we visited the Saint Michel area and were very disappointed to find it kind of a rough area. There was a lot of graffiti and certain alleyways were not inviting. There was an open air market advertised on the plaza but it was actually just about a dozen vendors selling junk…more of a rummage sale than anything. I’ve been all over Europe and these are usually good places for pickpockets so watch out. The church was nice to look at and the fresh food market is great…but spend your time in the nicer area of historic Bordeaux.

Possibly it will be one of the monumental squares of the city, but on our visit it was a construction site. In general the areas under construction or restoration of Bordeaux do not try to minimize their effects in front of visitors and locals. This square is an unpleasant example.

Besides the Basilica and the Tower (which is being renovated and restored), there is nothing really exceptional or even interesting about this square. Because this was the weekend, there was a great Farmers and Vendors Market in progress. It did bring some life to the square.

A beautiful cathedral that unfortunately has only a small brochure and placards on the organ in English. Worth a visit but it would be better with a guide or English on the explanations.

Actual name for this square is Place Meynard. Large square that is home to Basilica St. Michel and the Spire of St. Michel. As with most town squares, it is ringed with restaurants, shops and hotels. It is a great place to get photos of both the Tower and Basilica and to just people watch.
