Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

So many cathedrals are dark and gloomy but this one was only so in part. The walls and cxhapels in the east end have been repainted to match as nearly as possible the originals. Purists might disagree but it does give this part of the cathedral the feelings of splendour and magnificence which must have been awe inspiring in mediaeval times.

This is a good but common Cathedral. I think that the 2 outstanding characteristics are its renovations and its outstanding stained glass windows. Many stained glass windows were broken during a hailstorm in the 1800s and were replaced. The windows are gorgeous.

Beautiful old cathedral. Nice stained glass (the 1521 piece with quite a fascinating history was a highlight). Lots of good explanations (more expansive in French, but still a decent summary in English).

It's the most beautiful monument of Bayonne. Completely included in the old center of the town surrounded by traditional bask country houses. If you want to have a full view of this Gothic Cathedral, it's better to enter and visit the wonderful cloister. From there you can take wonderful pictures of the place. Inside the cathedral you could find beautiful chapels with lot of paints but don't miss the stunning ambulatory : this part has been magnifically restored and you will see what you rarely see in a Cathedral... I don't tell you more.

The ceilings are amazing and the cloisters are peaceful. The paintings of saints are worth a look. Lovely shops and cafes around here too.

We wandered in about 11am. There were active matins happening but people were quietly wandering around. The inside is very beautiful with gorgeous stained glass glass windows. This is an active Cathereral and provided you are respectful and quiet, I’m sure you will enjoy your visit.

Unlike many others we got in for free. The Stain Glass windows are exquisite and are the realistic style I like. It is undergoing renovation so should be much better when this is complete.

In the last decades, I had already drove quite a few times by Bayonne without having stopped in there. This time as I was ending the day and I decided to spend the night in there. What a great surprise; the Centre with its harmonious architecture, its cathedral and the two rivers give the town an unexpected beauty. Next time I take that high-way I’ll stop for sure again in Bayonne. Enjoy!
