Depressing museum
Dec. 2017 • Family
To say this museum is depressing is an understatement. Thousands of randomly organized, taxidermied animals, many of them now threatened or extinct in the wild. As others have said, there is no logic to the organization. At the end of the museum there are several rooms devoted to the men who created the museum and killed/collected the animals. This should have been found at the beginning of the tour so that at least there would be some historical context. My daughters and I left feeling very depressed. There are so many other interesting museums in Strasbourg to visit.

Poorly organized, literally decaying collection.
Sep. 2016 • Business
Went on one of the free days and was very unpleasantly surprised.

Collection, while large, is poorly organized and in poor condition. Many of the stuffed animals have seen better days, with many of the furred animals in some stage of decay.

Dioramas also were quite poor.

Few English translations. You can usually figure out enough to understand the general theme of a cabinet, but that's about it.

Poorly organized, decaying exhibits
Apr. 2016 • Couples
Exhibits are very poorly organized, at times making no sense whatsoever.

Many of the animals are falling apart, dusty, or otherwise in bad repair.

Few translations / explanations in English.

I'd skip it unless you are a particularly passionate zoological fan.

Small yet so many species are there! So many interesting things to see and learn. We enjoyed our time with our 8, 11 and 14 years old.

summer holidays
Aug. 2015 • Solo
Ideal for children as it is not too big only two floors. Allow one hour. Go in groups as it is a bit pricey. Maybe a refreshment area would be nice for summer when the heat is unbearable inside.Beautiful building and quiet cosy library.

Are you kidding me! 50 years of dusty dead animals
Jul. 2015 • Family
I love natural history museums. I loved the museum in Paris with all the animal bones, and the corresponding one with the taxidermy. I've been to the Natural History Museum in NYC more times than one can imagine. So it's not that this kind of museum isn't my cup of tea. It is! That's why we went. I can't believe I paid 10 euros to go here with my daughter. All they have are fading animal models. So old. So dusty. The colors of many of the animals and birds have faded beyond recognition. What a waste of time and money. I want it back. The only reason to go here would be if its a terribly, rainy day and you go with a kindergartener who likes animals. Might entertain her for 20 minutes. Also--It was a hot day and it was insufferably hot inside. Couldn't leave fast enough, and yes, we did go through the whole, mercifully small, place. Stay away.

Very educational!
Sep. 2013 • Solo
This is a great museum for zoology students and kids. It is not like a zoo or a safari where you enjoy live animals but rather a place you learn about phylogenetic systems and genealogical branches of animals. Having studied zoology & ecology eons ago, I could greatly appreciate the length they had gone to present it to the public in a very educational & interesting way. I especially liked how they isolated ecosystems and went into exhaustive details of them.

It was amazing to see the collection of insects from all over the world. It is truly educational for anyone interested in these little creatures, and also in big ones for that matter. I was asking myself how they used taxidermy for these minuscule creatures. Since there was plenty of unused space and some display boxes, a little description of taxidermy (for zoology study) could have been helpful. All in all, I enjoyed this museum.
