A great insight into Alsatian life
A lovely museum displaying the history and culture of the Alsace region. It is situated in a beautiful old timber house with creaky floors which adds to the ambience. We thoroughly enjoyed the museum and its displays, and would recommend a visit for those who are interested in the olden day lives of the Alsace people.

Very informative. Bring your translator app for greater insight
Very interesting museum covering Alsace culture from many different perspectives, architecture, religion, culture, fashion etc. We had a lovely time. Seniors, over 60, are a mere 3.5 euro. They have an English brochure but bring your favorite translator app as there's a wealth of information with is not in English. We used Google Translate all throughout the museum.

Fun place - lots to see
Lots of fun stuff. The buildings are a bit of a maze. It is not always clear where to go next. The central courtyard is great. I enjoyed the special exhibit that focused on nationalism, grief and other things during WW I. Easy to find the museum walking.

The three half-timbered houses with courtyards are a great setting for the museum
We had some free time on our walk through Petite France, so decided to visit the Musee. Love how they have used the three half-timbered houses with courtyards to display the history. Some great pieces such as the ceramic room heater c1900.

    We loved it !!
Spend a blissful hour in this quaint museum housed in traditional Alsatian style dwellings. The courtyard itself is worth the price of admission. There are some really interesting exhibits, not the least of which are the rooms dedicated to the religious heritage in the province: Catholicism, Protestantism and Judaism have each contributed to the area's rich cultural heritage and helped to imbue it with a checkered and diverse, if sometimes tragic history. Alsace is truly unique and endlessly fascinating. A short amble from the cathedral, the Rohan palace and all of the wonderful sites and sounds which abound in wonderful Strasbourg.

Lovely way to spend 90mins and delve into the history of the past 400 years.
We enjoyed a good 90mins visit at this museum. There were lots of interesting exhibits, showcased in an authentic three-house Alsatian conversion. The audio guides are free with your ticket and it is well worth getting one, especially for English, as only the main information points in the museum are translated. The individual exhibit pieces are mostly written about in French and German only.

Being in a number of Renaissance timber houses created a wonderfully atmospheric space, not least enhanced by the creaking floors.

Across about 26 rooms all aspects of Alsatian lives from the past are evocatively to be seen. Recreated interiors of living rooms and farmhouses are great.

A lovely courtyard is encircled by a great balcony of carved dark wood. Kitchens and their pots and pans plus more utensils feature.

Religious beliefs and ceremonies are displayed, including funereal and a little chapel. Peaceful living together of Catholic, Protestant and Jewish faiths over many years is emphasised.

Costumes and traditional wear were quite interesting to see. A final couple of rooms feature a well equipped forge that was in use till 1900 by an artistic ironworker.

I have been around many different places in France, Switzerland, and Germany over the last 3 weeks. I have never been refused entry because of my United States vaccination card except today at the Alsacien Museum. I was granted access to the Strasbourg Cathedral with my card

Great curation. The historical information is organized in a way that flows well while being interesting. The special exhibit by Charles Fréger was really good and near and dear to me as a subject I've studied for 20+ years. The museum staff are great. Friendly, approachable and knowledgeable. We plan to go back on our next visit to Strassbourg.

When we arrived in Strasbourg, I'll admit we didn't know much about the history and culture of this region of France. After visiting the Alsace Museum, we had a much better understanding of the history through period rooms, religion, clothes and traditions. I appreciate that they want to keep their region's culture alive and pay tribute to it. The rooms make you feel as if you're stepping into someone's home from the 1800's. It was very well done.

I also wanted to make mention, based on the previous reviews, there are now English audio guides and descriptions in most rooms.

Three (or more) interconnected houses display artefacts, rooms and scenes of Alsatian rural and early industrial life. The museum is quite extensive. The buildings themselves add to the ambience of the museum as you work your way through the various floors. The inner courtyard is lovely.

There is English (and other) language brochures available. The Strasbourg city pass gave a discount.
