My Hubster & I were on vacay- but he works in Belfort. He coerced me to walk up to see the Lion (wow!) and then continue to the top of the fort! Totally amazing views from the top! We really enjoyed it!

Great place to spend time with family or friends on a sunny day. Prepare comfortable shoes for the hiking

Were unaware of history of area and were pleasantly surprised by the Lion and Citadel. Quite a hike up to visit but well worth the effort. Lion very different to most monuments and a good landmark, although not lit up at night. Token cost of €1 to visit. The Citadel has excellent views over the surrounding countryside as well as the... It's worth seeing it. The lion is huge. Moreover it's constructed by Auguste Bartholdi (the Father of the Liberty Status in NY). It symbomizes the french resistance in the French-Prussian war of 1870-1871. An imposing symbol of Belfort and its citizens.

Not really friendly because location close from 12h30 up to 14h so not much to see. Lion sculpture is a nice to see but not worth making a detour for it.

It is a sculpture really meant to be seen from a distance. Going up to it the Lion is too large to see well from up close.

A historical place which is good to have seen once in your life due to the Vauban architecture to protect the city and following the 1870-1871 war the resulting monument of Mr Bartholdi who a few years later did the Liberty Statue (today 3 pieces exist in following cities: NY, Paris, Colmar)

Belfort is a border town, much fought over. There was a Vauban fortress, mostly demolished and replaced in the 19th century. There were three famous sieges, in 1813, 1814 and 1870/71. The place is vast with tunnels and parapets, a good museum, and last but not least a decent restaurant for a light lunch.
