St. Mary's Church

St. Mary's Church is called the Little Gem of Manchester and is well worth the visit. The hardest bit was finding it.

This place endures while the buildings around it pop up and then get turned down. It's beautiful, calm and welcoming. It has a set of modern painted Stations of the Cross, by Norman Adams which are worth visiting. A special place to gather your thoughts, light a candle and take in the peace.

Many people have told us to visit the Hidden Gem, as the Church is know as, so finally one day we decided to go. Took us a while to find it, hence the name the Hidden Gem, but well worth going. Unfortunately, there was a service on, but from what we saw of the Church, it is lovely, will be... More

This is rightly called the hidden Gem. Despite having found it on our last trip to Manchester and a brief pop in when Mass was in progress we still had trouble finding it again! It was worth it. It was the first catholic church to be built in Manchester after Catholic emancipation and is as ornate as many churches in... More

This is a difficult church to find, hence its nickname 'the hidden gem'. Mass is sais here and at other times it is still open to allow people to pop in and pray, rest, sit, etc. A pretty little church .

This little church is on the tourist trail but sadly tourists seem to think it is a public space where they can talk loudly and show little respect for the surroundings. There is a magnificent altar screen but the 'marble' pillars are not real. The walls are covered with modern paintings of the 'Stations of the Cross' - they may... More

Found myself sitting in a pew here at lunchtime during Mass, with a friend contemplating his son whose anniversary of passing it was. Mass is held here weekdays at 12:30 onwards for about 35 minutes. Go outside these times and you will find yourself in a quiet space should you want to find one in the noisy city, with a... More

The altar piece is magnificent, continental in its size and design. Well worth seeing. Also modern art on the walls. The church is not large but is an oasis of peace in the city
