Born in Manchester, is this unique lady. She was born to stand apart. She was born to be an advocate, not just for all other women, but for people sporting a cause. She did jail time for her cause… she was exceptionally good at hunger strikes. If the prisoner became affected by their hunger strike, they were released for a short time, she she had this down to fine art. At some point, she was even force-fed by the prison guards. She married a lawyer, much older than herself, and had a very good marriage. And according to her daughters, she maintained her house at all times. Still, she found time to rally for women’s rights which would ultimately lead women having a vote. I loved seeing the statue, the sad part was the lack of information at the site. Is it because nearly 100 years has passed since she died that she begins to fade into history pages??

This is a great statue in Central Manchester. It celebrates Emmeline Pankhurst and her fight for the vote, a vote that was passed into law in 1928, the same year she died.
