An interesting monument with a lot of background information about Matthew Webb. I for one didn’t know that he was from around Dawley. Lots of parking off road and it’s free, there even 3 disabled spaces by the monument.

Considering the incredible feat that Captain Webb made, his monument is now sadly of little note in his home town.

It's main interest is about Matthew Web, the first man to swim the English Channel. Other than that there is nothing special about it; just another civic memorial!

A nice tribute to are very own Dawley hero. It's just a shame that not many people see it as should, as Dawley is on the decline. Now the proposed threat of no market in Dawley even less will see it!

It is well made and attractive looking. A lovely monument to a well known local man. It's a shame he drowned in another country.

There is a hero in every town, here's one. It's an amazing story what Captain Webb achieved. For an unrecognised town this changes all that, vibrant, rich historical facts. town.
