Gloucester Life Museum is one of the oldest-established museums dedicated to social history. Set in three 500 year old Tudor timber-framed buildings, one of which was traditionally associated with the final night of the Protestant martyr, Bishop Hooper, the Life Museum is a complex of rooms on different levels with a unique ambience that makes it a popular destination for locals and visitors. Please note that due to the age of the building there is no disabled access to upper floors.

Gloucester Life Museum is open from Tuesday to Saturday, 10 am until 5 pm.

Really nice, not very big museum with character. Old wooden and very uneven floors make it feel so real. Great day out with the kids and by paying for a ticket you get a yearly pass. Right next to the Gloucester Cathedral, good location and on street parking just outside. Would definitely recommend.

I loved how some of these exhibits were presented - laid out just as they would have looked back in the day, such as the 1950s kitchen and living room, and the war office where you could 'sign up'. The building was absolutely stunning - an old Tudor building, which they've kept in the same style. It was nice to... More

This museum is housed in a lovely old timber-framed building and contains a fascinating collection of exhibits. We especially liked the display of household items which made us feel very old when we realised that we could remember using a lot of the items.

Very central museum. Lots of stairs so maybe not suitable for all. Lots to see and explore. Particularly liked the wedding dress display through time. Buy a ticket and get another museum for free, The Museum of Gloucester. A bargain. A good day out in Gloucester.

Since the entry price also covers the Gloucester City museum, it works out quite good value for money. There's an eclectic mix of exhibits in the Gloucester Life Museum including household artefacts, pin-making machinery, and clothing. Everything is nicely explained and you can wander around following what you find interesting.

Bought family ticket for £20 which gives access for one year to the four Gloucester Museums for 2 adults and up to 3 children which I think is an excellent package. We visited the Gloucester Museum then the Life Museum. We found cafes in both museums only offering self-service drinks and no served food. I assume they were open during... More

Thank you for your review. Unfortunately we have had to close the cafes and replace them with self-service hot and cold drinks and snacks, although we are more than happy for you to bring along food and take advantage of our free wi fi while you eat. I will look into our current advertising and make sure all the details... More

Not a bad museum to go and see if you are visiting the area or if you stay close by. It is however not really worth just to go and see it alone. I spent around 25 mins in it and it was really more than enough for me. I visited it because I was a student in Gloucester.

A 500 year old Tudor building preserved, worth seeing just for the outside. Though it doesn’t take too long to look around we discovered many items we’ve never seen before. I enjoyed looking at the wedding dresses and their history. Our ticket also enabled us to visit the Gloucester Museum too, shame we ran out of time. Though I was... More

As a local I have visited this Museum in Various guises over the last 60 years. Each time I have found it absorbing with so much local history available.
