Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Glad I wasn't at the wheel for this one - the views are lovely across the Sally Gap but also I'd have felt a bit nervous as it's quite undulating and narrow! Even though the day had turned a little overcast, the mist looked beautiful over the mountains and there are some wonderful opportunities for photographs.
The lake itself is on private property formerly owned by the Guinness family - it's said that it was they who arranged to have the white sand laid at the 'head' of the lake in order for it to resemble a pint of the Irish favourite!
There aren't any facilities at the site so come prepared with food and drink if needed, or drop by on your way back or to Glendalough (which does have a loo and a few restaurants). If you're going that way in your car anyhow, it's certainly worth dropping by.

Lough Tay, also known as Lake Guinness got its nickname because the color of the water resembles the color of Guinness beer and its shape is like a pint.
To get to this beautiful spot enter "JB Malone Car Park" in your GPS, park your car and cross the road safely. This will get you to a beautiful view of the lake
Please note that it can be very windy so come prepared.

Coming from Blessington it is a beautiful scenic drive to Glendalough (looky, looky) then off to the sally gap road stopping to look at the amazing views of this lae, prevousily owned by the people of the same name, they even brought in sand to make it look like a pint of guinness, impress. Definitely worth a stop.

We visited the lake as part of a coach tour, It was possibly the highlight of the tour. Sadly the driver on gave us 15 minutes to get of take photos and get back on the coach.
If you want to visit here then find a different means of transport enabling you to have more time to view and explore.
I definitely would go again under my own steam.

Took the scenic route from Dublin along the Sally Gap, and what a drive. The scenery on the drive is amazing and once you get to the view point for Lough Tay the view is stunning. Great photo opportunity.

Sand has brought in placed on one bank of the lake to make it look like the foam on a pitcher of Guinness. Beautiful view from above, solitary and becalming place.

Worth a drive. Make sure to carry food and water as you won't have much options up the way. Choose a sunny day as bad weather will.spoil the fun

We came to the lake via Laragh, there are two ways to sally gap from Glendalough, in our opinion this is not the nicest drive, however to see the lake we had no choice, the lake itself is absolutely stunning, the views are on private property however, during our visit no one seem to take notice. The name is self explanatory, however, actually called Lough Tay. This is definitely worth a visit.
