Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Winter or summer the Wicklow Gap has a lot to offer. Barren in many places and winding road but you can generally see reasonably far ahead. Beware of the sheep! Parking at the side of the road can be an issue - all four seasons in a morning! Amazing!

If you want to see just how beautiful this county is then take a trip (by car, bicycle, motorbike or an organised mini-bus tour) over the Dublin and Wicklow Hills and through the Wicklow Gap. Beautiful valleys, waterfalls and an abundance of wild life and beautiful flora and fauna. Bring a picnic but be sure to take your litter home!

The drive from Glendalough (if you are visiting the monastic ruins) west to Hollywood is unbelievable. Only matched by the Sally Gap, north of Glendalough, which you also must see. The road is well paved but narrow with blind curves. On a Sunday in May there were scores of bicyclists out, moving at high speed, often in small groups -- which made the drive difficult, except had a professional driver. The views across the wide open, barren landscape were marvelous, Nothing better in Ireland -- or anywhere.

The sun was shining as we set out from Laragh but within 15 minutes it has become cold and overcast as we ascended the road to the Gap. This route is one of only two routes crossing the Wicklow Mountains from East to West and luckily asphalted. Its barren in places, elsewhere you have various mountain vegetation and pasture, and sheep. Spectacular views in both sunshine and overcast conditions and great for photos when you get the opportunity to park the car for a few minutes. The road is not overly wide and yet you have to be aware of the occasional formula 1 driver and the tour buses whose drivers feel that they own the road. Shame on the litter louts including those responsible for election signage. Lovely drive of just over an hour, including stops.

This road is actually the road linking Valleymount/Hollywood & Laragh. We went up here yesterday Saturday 14th. The road wasn't overly crowded but the sun shone brightly allowing Us to stop, have a picnic amd go for a walk up a mountain here. Truly spectacular - we pulled into the first large layby on the right heading towards Laragh ( I think this is actually right above Turlough Hill ).

We could have stayed there all day such was the spectacular scenery. The only blight on everything was litter:

Empty coke can and crisp packaging strewn over the place. Shame on whoever left that rubbish there!

Anyone going up there and isn't familiar with the area BE CAREFUL, the roads are not the widest by any stretch of imagination.

There is a little boardwalk where you can take pictures that don't really capture the beauty of the place, but other than that it's just a pull off from the road.

The drive from Hollywood to Glendalough, is a truly stunning, wonderful drive with the many twists and turns that just add to the scenery and beauty of the the surrounds definitely a must do, add sally gap to the trip, and in our opinion completes the trip.

WSe could have chosen a less scenic route but were glad that we ended up driving through the Wicklow Mountains.

We don't live too far from here, so when the weather is good, we bring our dog out for a trek in the mountains.

I couldn't count how many times we have been up here, but this time, was the first where the outside gate was open to Turlough Hill. We didn't need a 2nd invitation haha.

Heading down towards Laragh, we passed the first parking spot, and instead stopped in the 2nd one.

Word of caution though: Please listen to the local weather forecasts in winter, and HEED any advice given regard driving conditions. This road MUST be respected, sun one minute, snow 30 minutes later!!!
