Come explore nearly 1000 years of history The cathedral opens its doors to visitors throughout the year. People of all faiths and none are invited to explore its history, worship with us, and enjoy quiet moments of reflection. There is no entrance fee, but donations toward the upkeep of this unique cathedral are gratefully received. Visitors may avail of free interpretive guides to the cathedral, which was made possible by funding from the Heritage Council. Beautiful Church of Ireland Anglican Cathedral on the site where a Viking Church stood some 1,000+ years ago. Easy walk across the street from Waterford Crystal and Factory Store. Cathedral needs some repair and maintenance due to it's 250 year age. Nice gift shop inside near the entrance. Free entry.

Impressive, yet welcoming cathedral building with an interesting history and interior features. Particularly struck by the decoration around the altar area, ‘the cadaver tomb’ of James Rice and the ‘Child’ stained glass window.
Liked the fact that all visitors were free to take as many photos as they wanted without needing to fork out for a permit (as in other major churches). I ended up snapping quite a few!
Was greeted by Geoffrey (member of staff on the desk) who was friendly, efficient and VERY knowledgeable. I reckon he should start leading tours. He could well be an untapped asset!

The cathedral is free to visit, but unfortunately, it is not open on bank holidays. King Strongbow and queen Aoife married here.

Not as opulent as its close Catholic neighbour but an impressive building all the same. It is wonderful to see these aging Cathedrals restored & maintained . The two Waterford crystal chandeliers give are just perfect & if you are lucky enough to hear the organ being played then you will have had a truly memorable visit.
We later found out that it is often a venue for music concerts.

'Wow', the most serene and inspiring visit to the most beautiful cathedral.

I thoroughly enjoyed my visit here. I enjoyed the different strands of architecture and most of all the marvellous windows that allowed so much light to enter this sacred place. There was one stain glass window and I was fascinated by this with its delightful colours which were very rich depicting both night and day. The window was that of A. E Child entitled 'Sorrow and Joy' dating from 1930. The inscription 'Sorrow may endure for a night but Joy cometh in the morning'.
Equally stunning was the stucco ceilings of which great care has been taken decorated to perfection with restful colours surrounding it. As for the pipe organ this is the' piece de resistance' in every sense of the word. Take note of the delicate winding stairway to it. A perfect combination.
The gentleman on duty was most gracious in everyway and faultless in his presentation of all that enhances this beautiful space.

This cathedral is chock full of history and you can easily spend an hour here taking in the beautiful architecture and reading about how it all came into being.
Also, while you're there search out Sheila, a lovely woman docent who, in addition to being kind and lovely, is quite knowledgeable about Christ Church Cathedral and all things Ireland.

Beautiful 18th century cathedral. Both Catholic and Church of Ireland Cathedrals in Waterford were designed by the same man, John Roberts and are very different. Christ Church has an amazing ceiling. There are many memorials in the church and the tomb of a merchant named Rice, which is well worth a look! There are daily tours of the church which are most interesting but the information leaflet really tells you a lot., There is a small shop at the back of the church. The church is situated within the Viking Triangle so is close to other attractions and hard to miss.

On entering the Cathedral you will see a jaw dropping gorgeous Waterford Crystal Chandelier hanging from the ceiling, it is amazing. I could sit just looking at it all day. It is stunning.

This cathedral is large and beautiful. It is in the middle of the city, but very peaceful inside. The fee to get in was very reasonable and we could tour at our leisure. The architecture was incredible from the floors to the ceilings. Don't miss going down to the crypt.
