We came across it by chance when the tide was out and a friendly local told us that it was safe to drive across. We took the chance and it was a lovely autumn day to view the spectacular island and its views to Rosses Point. The drive to the little secluded cove beach was fantastic and we were able... More

Coney Island does not seem like the place you would bother to go, but the drive there across the ocean floor is fun in its self. Once you get to the Island there is a little pub - nothing fancy and quite small, but the history and the pub owner, Michael will give you the history of the Island. Then... More

It is a really worth while experience. We did this around 10 o'clock in the morning when the tide was out. There was still large puddles of water which made us very wary of crossing but we took the leap of faith and began our trek. We took it handy going across as some of the puddles looked quiet deep.... I had always wanted to visit Coney Island but were scared off by the stories of the tide coming in and getting stuck in the sand. Well if you check the tide times and go out at low tide it is the most fantastic experience driving over across the sand hearing the splash of water at your wheels. The island... More

The RNLI are now providing a very useful text service during spring/summer advising on best times to cross to avoid getting caught out by the tide. Anyone planning to visit the island by car, bike or foot is encouraged to Text Coney to 53600 (from Republic of Ireland mobiles) or 81400 (from Northern Ireland/UK mobiles) to find out the safe... This is such a special place to visit for a day out most especially on a glorious sunny day in Ireland. Check with locals or online re the times of the tide so you don't get stranded on the island and you're car will need a good wash down after the trip should you drive out. It's a 2.5km trip... More

A sand spit out into an Atlantic bay. Nothing else around but Mountains in the distance. Finding it can be a very small challenge.
