We visited in between exhibitions so the main attraction was the Jack Yeats permanent show and it was well worth seeing. The Model is a large space and is built over a number of different levels, so it can be quite daunting to orient yourself on your first visit. For instance, we found it hard to find the main desk... I really like the Model since it was revamped - I've been a few times now and there is always an exhibit worth whiling away an hour or two. The cafe is great, good food, bright and airy and a lovely place to study or work for a while.

"Ghosts of Other Stories" The title tells you ??? The blurb by the curator refers to glimpses that trigger something and then disappear. I must be a philistine. Yet again I have been bitterly disappointed by what this excellent venue regards as a "show" or "exhibition" or "installation". The present production is minimalist and elusive. When I entered the first... More

A pleasant way to pass a hour. Not the biggest museum visited. Interesting exhibits. The building itself is worth a visit.

Called in to see the Jack B Yeats exhibition which was lovely and very interesting to see the magazines the Cula Press produced so long ago. Decided to have lunch and was mightily impressed with a goats cheese, chorizo and red onion jam salad I was presented with accompanied by delicious bread with....horror of horrors no butter only a choice... I'd never been before, so asked at the desk what was worth seeing. Unfortunately I was between exhibits, and much of the building was closed as they were hanging a new exhibition. However, the young and very knowledgable young woman at the desk talked me through the Yeats Exhibition which was showing. she was so enthusiastic it was a joy to... this was discovered quite by accident. a really good example of blending old and new, so please look outside at both entrances! Interesting exhibition with video work and J B Yeats paintings demonstrating that blending old and new can work inside and outside; well worth a visit...and there is a great cafe to sample.

My sister and I viewed the Niland Collection and learnt about it's history. Beautiful paintings to see. I particularly lliked certain paintings by Jack Yeats. Very helpful lady on reception desk directed us in person to area of exhibition. Beautiful old building outside, originally a school, modernised very well inside.

Unexpectedly wonderful gallery for a town of its size. One large wall has many works of art spread across it and the eye flicks about from painting to painting- left to right and up and down. A nice break from paintings in a row which is standard for most galleries. Well worth a visit.
