Charleville castle is a building which has been rescued from near ruin by volunteers and a voluntary organisation - it has been described as Irelands leading historical architect, Francis Johston's masterpiece. It is maintained authentic and unchanged and we rotate volunteers to mind it 24 hours a day 365 days a year - but also to keep it open to the public. it is famous for its ghosts stories and unique architecture - but it is not a state-funded project and depends entirely on volunteers and supporters - so many people, thousands, have expressed their love of the building and support - we hope you will get a real feeling of what it is to keep a castle like this alive when you visit - see you here!

Cool

Cool visit in this very beautiful little castle managed by friendly characters. Although a lot of it can't be visited for safety reasons, you'll get a kick out of the tour

We were in Tullamore for a tour of the distillery and our return train to Dublin left us with about 3 hours to wander. We decided to walk the approximately 2 miles to the castle. What a huge disappointment. The castle is closed and in serious disrepair. As we wandered onto the grounds (we were the only ones there) we... More

Very cold damp but very impressive castle. Parts are under reno @ this time. Looks like a slow on going process. Our tour guide was an older Irish gentleman who really knew the castle history along with some hauntings and was very glad to share with us.

We were lucky enough to be able to participate in a spooky night in Charleville Castle along with other people that attended on the night. It was absolutely brilliant. We were given a tour a the start and then as the night progressed and we made our way into each of the rooms we were told about the stories of... More

I am so glad that my husband and I visited this castle! We stopped in Tullamore on the way from Dublin to Galway to go to the distillery. I had read about this castle and thought it would be something we would enjoy. What I loved most about this tour is how personal it was. We were there in July... More

I was in Tullamore, so I had to visit its castle. I visited in the winter, so the place was not open for business. There was a sign on the door letting visitors know about the reduced hours during the winter months. The sign did invite visitors to enjoy the exterior views, and listed a time when they would be... This Gothic-style castle located in County Offaly, is currently closed but has a glorious facade that is worth a look in itself, the castle is set deep in the forest grounds, plenty of walking to be had and a nice drive in, definitely worth a look, awesome piccies to be had.

3rd time visiting, just can't get enough of this castle. Nice to see the slow but certain progress of restoration and upkeep. Visiting times are shortened for the winter because of lack of tourists, but still they manage to keep it open! Big cheers to the Castle ant their volunteers!
