Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Excellent library for local family and area history. Very friendly and helpful staff. Had emailed in advance of our visit to Castlebar area researching my wife's irish grandfather's family (Lavelle) who had lived in Parke / Turlough area and got vlauable information and hints / advice from Jim. Althugh unfortunately we were not able to meet Jim when we visited the Library he had left some notes to to other staff to pass onto us, plus the staff also took time to help us look at local historical maps and other facts abou the life in the area, and possible links to the Lavelle family. There is currently a big detailed exhibition about the French / Irish locals Alliance against the British in 1798 in which it appears some Lavelle's either fought with teh French or were released from Prison at the time. We will return again to continue our research next year and hopefully meet Jim in person. Thanks to all who spoke to at the Library during our visits.

We were in Castlebar to do a bit of Family history and had been given directions on where to find the Public Records Office, alas it was not where we were told, we then found the Library and stopped in for help.
The people at the front desk could not have been more friendly and helpful.
They had a copy of an area map and showed us where to go, they even suggested that we leave the car in the lot and walk as it was close by.
Everything worked out and we got the information we needed.

The genealogy section of the library was very helpful for my wife's ancestry search. The library ladies were so good with helping her find information.

October 2012, I went to the County Mayo Library Headquarters, in Castlebar, Co. Mayo, for researching genealogy records, the staff was most helpful, (a word of advice, be careful where you park). On my return to Ireland, April-May 2013, I was based in Claremorris, and, headed to their branch, w/passport in hand, to apply for a Library card, the cost was 5 euro's, a bargain. On my recent trip, March 2014, before leaving for Ireland, I made sure my Library card was in my change purse. The Swinford branch, (a former train station) very open, internet access, local newspapers, plenty to read, Librarian, Ann O'Brien, very helpful.

We went here as we were doing some family research and as it was a Saturday the records office was closed. One of the librarians helped us and spent a long time doing so - she was extremely helpful, found newspaper articles concerning great grandparents and helped look for death records. She went out of her way, above and beyond and we were able to use the material to add to our research. Couldn't thank her enough and wish I'd got her name
