Peaceful prayerful atmosphere

This was a real treasure to find in the city, a wonderful haven of peace and prayerfulness to spend time in at any point in the day.

A truly majestic structure in a very urban setting. We didn't take the opportunity to walk in the Abbey itself but took pics from numerous angles.

Just a short walk from the St. Candice's Cathedral, the Abbey is under the direction of the Dominican Order. There is beautiful stained glass window behind the Alter.

Black abbey is really beautiful and well worth a quick visit. It's a free self guided tour but you have the option of purchasing an information brochure or book for a very small fee.

The church has an incredible history. We enjoyed the chance to go inside just before it closed and wished we'd had more time. It was a perfect place to sit and reflect on all that had happened here. The rosary mosaic is well worth seeing - very interesting!

This Abby is right on the road, looks like the road was build to miss the ruins. Self guided tour leaves many questions about that is there and what was there. Awsome to touch the granite carvings and to learn about what happened to the inhabitants.

We walked through the church. But there wasn't much signage to explain the history. We get it, it is an active church, and not a tourist attraction, but it is so old we would have loved to learn more.

I discovered this by chance when walking in Kilkenny. It is a striking building with an array of ancient graves outside. The stain glass windows are stunning. The 14th century alabaster Trinity statue is unique. A serene tranquil place of worship.

Thank Brendan J
