It is more interesting from the outside than the inside. The interior of the building is a modern operational local courthouse with not a lot to see as it carries on it's daily business. The outside face of the building does however maintain a sense of age and the lower windows are still barred representing the old jail

It is not really very much to see, but it is interesting how the house has been used in the most different ways. Have a look outside when you pass.

Originally built as a town house belonging to influential Grace family. thus it is also known as 'Graces Old Castle'. It was yielded to the crown for use as a 'Sheire Gaol' in 1566 at which time it must have been rebuilt. It became a courthouse, during the Georgian Period, between the years 1758 and 1792. The cells at ground... More

Nice to see even if its just walking by. Lots of history and stories here. You are not able to go in but it is still worth a quick visit.

This is worth walking through, but you need some historical perspective before you go in or it's a waste.

While walking around Kilkenny this is an interesting sight. Many bars on the Windows. Great view and plaques from the outside. Interesting to take a photo.

Great to see it as part of your walk through Kilkenny. However, you are not able to enter as this is a functioning court house, etc. So, I would suggest not going out of your way if you are planning to see the inside. However, as part of your walk through Kilkenny, it is quite close to everything, and, it... More

I don't think it would be possible to go into this place without first consulting the security at the front door, there were cases going on the day I was here, and people were having out of court meeting there while I admired the building as a tourist. WOuld be a good one to take a look around though, nice... More

We stumbled upon this place in the shopping district. Lovely old building. There was picketing going on outside the building, but it was peaceful so didn't really bug me too much.
