Neat area in Kilkenny

A nice area for shopping, dining and people watching. We enjoyed a wonderful dinner nearby at Petronella

Interesting place to see if you can see beyond the tacky window decor on the little shops in the alley - there is really nothing much to see here.

The butter slip is simply an alley way made impressively out of stone that connects the upper and lower streets associated with the medieval mile. There are a couple of shops and very nice restaurants in the alley

Downtown Killkenny was nice. Butterslip is just an alleyway. Not sure why it is listed as something to see.

Taking the Butter slip saves you some from one street to another. I would highly recommend you use it.

Unless I missed something telling what the historical significance of this alley is, it's just an old alley. Quaint, cobbled, narrow, unremarkable; other than it put me in front of Petronella's Restaurant which was a great dinner.

Visited in June 2015. I really enjoyed exploring this historic passageway. I've been reading about medieval history, and particularly enjoy reading about the 12th century knight, William Marshall, who built Kilkenny castle. This passage appears to be something that would have possibly existed in his day. Worth talking a few minutes to explore.

While in Kilkenny take the few minutes to take this passage between the two main streets. It's interesting to see how they got around the old city.

This is just a little narrow street between two main streets, but pleasant and quirky. As it was Sunday, the shops were closed.
