Joan's Birthday

After taking the tour around Muckross house and seeing the paintings of the Abbey and then taking the walk up to the Abbey and actually seeing it well worth the walk.

Beautiful example of Franciscan friary built in the 15th century. Brief walk from Muckross House. The original walls and cloisters are in excellent condition.

You'll find this medieval monastery just a few hundred metres inside the national Park in Killarney at the Ross Road entrance. It's worth a visit just to see such a building, albeit a ruin in good condition. It dates back to the 1500s and was built by the Franciscans on an older monastic site. It's a free visit and it's... We loved this place which we had all to ourselves to explore. Nooks and staircases interesting to explore. Go in the off season so you don't have to take a carriage and pay the fee. Also, no need to walk from here to Ross Castle. Drive to the main entrance from Killarney downtown,.

This is a logical stop if you visit Muckross house and Torc waterfall. The ruined cloister surrounds a very old tree: definitely striking!

A bit of a sad tale behind it but amazing beauty. It truly takes you back in time. The tour guide brought it to life.

I just stopped there on the way around the lakes. I like architecture much more than natural attaractions (like some very popular waterfall nearby). My friends didnt know where I was taking them, but they loved it! The abbey is 10 min walk from the parking (which can be easy to miss) across the park. From distance it looks ok,... More
