We took a horse a carriage ride from outside our hotel in wintertime to this extraordinary place. Even in winter this place is a gem. Perfectly situated on the edge of a lake, we saw birds fly like watching a scene out of a movie. To be part of the history and glory of what once was took our breath... More

Some of Ross Castle is closed during the winter months but it was still beautiful and the grounds overlook a lake that was stunning. The mallards and swans are in the waterway right next to the castle and there are jaunting carts that will take you on a horse drawn carriage tour of the park. Don't forget to walk back... More

Enjoyed a fab Sunday morning walk from Killarney through the national park and back again. About 40 min walk each way. Nice for a Sunday morning stroll and walk around the castle

Congratulations to the Office of Public Works for restoring the O'Donoghue Clan. Many years ago I had the pleasure of supplying the Reclaimed Valentia and Bangor slates for the roof. Of particular satisfaction were the very small custome dressed slates used on the 2 Turrets ( obscured from view at ground level by the parapet walls of the towers ). The... More

Any old castle in Ireland is cool, right? I'd probably have to say yes; however, Ross Castle is on the water, easy to access, and not terribly crowded at the right time. (We stopped late in the afternoon when it was raining, and we were the only folks around!)

I love this castle. It is in a very picture perfect location and the tour is really excellent. Be sure to take the boat ride to the monastic ruins, too.
