    Wild and Wonderful
Our BnB hostess suggested we drive through Ballasheen Pass, sheep on mountains, green valleys, so many stone walls, very narrow twisty roads. Turned before Waterville, stopped in Sneem for Mullin’s Family Ice Cream which was delicious then on towards Kenmare, ocean not very visible except at turnouts. Moll’s Gap and Ladies view were gorgeous with beautiful views of Looscaunagh Lough, be sure to stop and soak the view in from a turnout and then on to Killarney.

Great drive along the Wild Atlantic Way
We actually covered the route over 2 days. On day 1, we drove from Kinsale to Kenmare and spent a night. En route we were able to visit the attractions in / around the Killarney National Park(Muckross/Torc/Ross etc.) leisurely including a walk in the beautiful Gap of Dunloe, which is otherwise impossible to fit into a rushed day trip. On Day 2, we made an early start from Kenmare (gaining a headstart over the buses and tour groups), and drove clockwise along the route finally spending a night in Dingle town after. The route offers a diverse mix of scenery and landscapes. We made several stops including Sneem, Staigue Fort, Carrols Cove, Derrynane Hse and Beach, Portmagee (incl a minor detour into Valentia island). An enjoyable experience overall. We didn't have time to include Skellig Michael, where you need at least another dy to such an itinerary.

    Beautiful in every direction
We were staying in Kinsale and driving along the coast and visiting different towns and places of interest over the weekend. So many fantastic places to eat, the seafood was off the scale ! Everyone was so friendly and the views are remarkable. What a beautiful place.

There is no right or wrong way here
We tried to follow the suggested route in a Rick Steves guidebook, but found that we liked stopping here and there and taking a different turn, so there really is no right or wrong way to travel here, except of course if you don't visit. We had fun pulling to the side of the road and admiring the views whenever we pleased, climbing the forts along the way, and enjoying nature at its finest. So, make a rough plan for the day, pack some food and drinks, and stop at the places that speak to you.

Amazing views, but quite a trek
Driving the full Ring of Kerry will take you 3+ hours - driving on winding and sometimes very narrow roads. There are many points along the way to stop and take pictures - the pictures don't do the views justice! Plan exra time for the stops - they are worth it!

    Beautiful views
We went there as a tour group. Along the way on the bus, we continually see beautiful views. We stopped at a few places for photos. We also stopped for lunch breaks. Lunch was great, I had Shepard’s pie. It was like paradise. Views from the restaurant were great.

To be fair to the Ring of Kerry, we’d completed the Dingle Peninsula, Connor Pass, Killnarney National Park and the Gap of Dunloe the day’s prior (all of which are breathtakingly stunning), and the Ring of Kerry clockwise honestly didn’t compare at all. If you’ve a spare day maybe worth a drive, but if you’re not in County Kerry for long, I’d definitely do the other places mentioned, they’re far more scenic. This felt like a long bumpy inland road with snippets of coastline and scenery that we continued on just for the sake of doing it. Maybe if we’d have done it first. We did go off route and find Skellig Michael, which was cool.

The ride was long and the views were not very exciting. Now admittedly we live in the Great Smoky Mountains of NC and are surrounded by spectacular vistas everywhere. The Slea Head was much shorter and was packed with visuals. We believe the Ring is overly hyped and has rested on its reputation for a long time. Having said that, the Cliffs of Kerry were worth the ride out to the western most point. It is on private land but for a couple of Euros you can walk up a hill and out over the cliffs to see a thunderous spectacle in all directions. The Ladies View on the eastern part of the drive was OK but I would guess anyone from the US has seen similar visuals. Given that it takes the better part of a day to do I feel you don't really get your time's worth. However, I would highly recommend going to the Kissane Sheep farm at Molls Gap. Great people, great sheep dog demonstration great experience.

There are lots to see by this route. If you drive yourself I recommend to go counterclockwise like the busses because sometimes the roads are very narrow. The speed limit is mostly 100 and the road can be quite curvy. Especially if you are not used to drive on the left side, this road can be a nightmare. There might be sheep in the middle of the road right after the curve so you must be alert all the time while driving.

We drove this in one day. We stopped at the Kerry Bog Village, Valentia lighthouse, Cliffs of Kerry and Ladies View. Killarney National Park is a place to stay for several days. The view to the sea in the southern part of the route is very beautiful.

We spent a full day driving the Ring of Kerry. Started around 8am and finished up around 6pm. Drove clockwise, which seemed to work very well. The highlight for us was the stops along the Skellig Ring. I will admit that we enjoyed the Dingle Loop a bit better (which we did the next day) - but that didn't take away from the Ring of Kerry. Our itinerary included Ladies View, Molls Gap, Kenmare, Com an Chiste, Waterville, Ballinskellig Castle & Abbey, Cum an Easpaig, Kerry Cliffs, Portmagee, Bray Head loop and Geokaun Mountain. A full day for sure, but so worth it! Kerry Cliffs would have to be the highlight amongst the Skellig Ring stops.

We drove ourselves vs taking a tour and left early to avoid the tour buses, because we left very early we drove the opposite direction of the tour buses and this made for a great day, we had most sights to ourselves vs dealing with crowds...if you do not go early, I do not recommend driving the opposite of the buses as it would then become dangerous. Buses have the right away on this drive and there are a few areas where there is no place to pull over. Drive with caution.

We took 3 days to do the Ring of Kerry and loved every minute. We drove from Killarney to Kenmare on the first day stopping at Muckross House for a couple of hours and Torc waterfall as well as the various viewpoints. We stayed in Kenmare for 2 days taking a day out to drive the Beara peninsula. This was well worth it. From there to Valentia Island via Sneem Sculpture Park, Caherdaniel, Waterville and Charlie Chaplin, Pormagee and onto Valentia Island. Went up to the Fogher Cliffs and the GeoKaun Mountain on the isalnd for fabulous views. Stayed 1 night on the island then back onto The Ring for Cahersiveen and Kells viewpoint and the fabulous beach at Rossbeigh before travelling onto Limerick. Really pleased we took our time, drove ourselves so we could stop where we wanted to for as long as we wanted.

Words cannot describe, but I’ll try. Being on a bus tour, so we can only travel in one direction on the ring, because there are spots where two busses would not be able to drive pass each other. We started in the valley in the Killarney/ Muckross area with it’s rivers, flowers and views that are stunning. Then we traveled through the cute little town of Killorglin and our first stop was the Kerry Bog Village Museum and the Red Fox Inn. They were both very nice, one for a tour into history, the other for a delicious Irish coffee. Pulled over in Glenbeigh for astonishing views/ photo opportunities. Then we continued to Cahersiveen where we drove by Daniel O'Connell's Birth Place and cute little Waterville where we stopped for lunch and time at their beautiful beach. Next on to Caherdaniel, an amazingly beautiful scenic pull off. Sneem was an idealistic little town and a perfect place to grab an ice cream or pastry. Then we traveled through Moll's Gap and Ladies View. I can see why the Queen picked this picturesque garden with a view to have her tea. I hope you enjoy it as much as we did!

The Ring of Kerry was an experience I will never forget and will definitely do again as well as recommend to everyone.

I started the ring in Killorglin. From there I made my way to Portmagee where I stayed the night. Along the way I saw Ballycarbery castle, a few stone forts and some breathtaking views! Don’t forget to pull over every chance you get so you can truly appreciate the views and beauty around you.

The next day we explored Valentia Island and did a few hikes. Definitely add this to your list as the island and views are stunning! From there we ventured the Cliffs of Kerry which is just a short drive past Portmagee.

We decided to continue onto the Ring of Skellig which eventually connected back to the Ring of Kerry. Really lovely drive, more amazing views and some cute villages. When you pass through Ballinskelligs be sure to stop into Skellig Chocolate!

Once we connected back to the Ring of Kerry we continued onto see some castle ruins, another stone fort, a waterfall, a few other random sites and stopped several more times at some view points. We eventually ended up in Killarney where we stayed the night.

The next day in Killarney we saw Ross Castle, a few churches and a beautiful cathedral. We then made our way to Muckross House and Gardens and ventured around for a bit. Didn’t have enough time to really see the national park but if you do - make sure to do it.

On our way home to Dublin we took a detour and drove down to Kinsale where we explored Charles Fort and then roamed around the colourful, stunning town.

I did the Ring of Kerry in about 2 days but if you like to explore, hike and want to do it at a comfortable speed then I would add an extra day or two on. For example, the Killarney park can take a day if you really want to do it right. But if you have time restrictions then 2 days is plenty but I would recommenced doing half the ring the first day and staying the night (I stayed in Portmagee) and doing the other half the next day.

Just some side notes to those travelling in from outside Ireland...

When your in Ireland, be sure to check out the local churches, cathedrals or abbeys as they hold a wealth of history and many are breathtaking.

Remember - if you go off the main road you will most likely be on local roads going to most of the sites. Ensure you drive carefully and you are being courteous to the other drives. As the roads can be very thin, pullover if your near a drive way or something to allow the vehicles to pass and in return others will do the same. There may be times you will need to reverse down the small roads into the nearest lane way for the other vehicle to pass.

Although google maps etc. will give you approx. travel times - it will usually take you a bit longer. This is because like mentioned above the local roads can take a bit more time to travel on and your usually going to go under the posted speed limit.

The greens of Ireland and the beautiful countryside were the best driving around the coast in The Ring of Kerry. We spent the day but you could take longer.
We stopped at a sheep farm and saw a sheep dog demonstration. Very impressive.
