Beautiful surprise.

We thought it dated back to like the 18th century but it was actually built in the 70s on the site of a former prison. One of the most beautiful houses of worship we've seen.

Galway is always a gem! Great city for strolling with many good eateries as well as the not so good! Always street entertainment in abundance -day and night..

Visited this cathedral on Good Friday (2017) a totally soulless, cold and unwelcoming church. The unadorned rough, grey-coloured limestone is repellent outside and forbidding inside, a grotesque example of what could be described as Soviet Brutalism. The ugly, faded(?) mosaic behind the main altar is nothing but a distraction. The lancet windows let in so little light the place must... More

I did not realize that this cathedral was built in the mid 1900s. It is vast. The most interesting feature are the stained glass windows created by various artists so each window is different. It's a pity they didn't have any information pamphlets about the different windows.

We went twice to this beautiful church in our one and a half day stay in Galway. We attended an actual Gaelic service on Sunday morning and just took photos the night before. Gorgeous and enormous.

Entry is free and there are info flyers about the cathedral's history in different languages. The windows of this Cathedral are stunning. Absolutely beautiful! I could have just looked at them for hours. In a small-ish city such as Galway, this is one of the must-see things when doing sightseeing.

It's a great place to go if you are in need of some quiet time for contemplation or mass. It's very majestic, serene and tranquil inside.

Often call here when visiting Galway City. Executed in beautiful stonework in the mid twentieth century, bright uplifting interior with excellent stained glass and modern murals creating a fresh and peaceful atmosphere. A perfect pause in your busy day.

Worth taking the time to see the beautiful stone and wood work done throughout the Cathedral. Definitely a place of pride for the city, and rightly so.

Stunning place! Beautiful inside - well worth a walk around and lovely situated by the river! All is asked is a donation left, such a great place to visit if into culture, art, religion, photography! A fantastic experience to look back on - so impressive.
