Recently visited for the first time with my son & friend along with her son. Tickets cost us €34 & must be prebooked.
The gardens are beautiful & beautiful whilst in bloom. We walked around & noticed certain parts of the grounds were closed off & we had to follow a one way system.
There is a small play area(suitable for U8)
There’s also a zip line which the boys enjoyed.
We decided to visit the house which had areas also closed off (my friend had visited on 3 previous occasions) some of the displays were empty & we were disappointed.
We had ice creams from the little coffee shop(which were very tasty(€2.50 each)
The boys climbed trees for most of our visit.
The farm.... not really a farm, kids don’t get feed for animals but look at site for time when animals are fed.
Overall - disappointing & the ticket cost is far too expensive!

Hi Berni110,
Thank you for your comments about your visit to Airfield Estate. Due to government recommendations, we have made some changes to the visitor experience which include a one-way system and closing off areas to facilitate work.
We're a working farm, not a petting farm in Dundrum with a herd of Jersey cows, donkeys, hens, goats, sheep and pigs surrounded by organic food and ornamental gardens and are here to educate people about their food and where it comes from.
Regards,
Airfield Estate

We loved Airfield! We weren't expecting such a huge farm with woods and we really enjoyed it. Catherine, the tour guide, is just amazing. She is a very loving lady who explains everything in such a way that made us love the place as much as she does. There are different things to do and see there: storytime for kids, milking the cows, learning about Airfield house, beautiful playground area, nice restaurant (though tea or coffee not available after 4.30!), massive orchard and lovely animals. I would recommend it for both children and adults as it makes you escape from the city and enjoy nature.

Terrible Christmas experience. I dont like leaving negative reviews but gave airfield a chance to respond and heard nothing back. Booked this on recommendations to visit Airfield estate. It was very expensive for what was actually provided. The man playing Santa was an absolute gent and staff were friendly. The experience itself was not at all worth what was paid, it didnt even include a photo with Santa, nor was there staff in the room with Santa available to take a family photo with with him, and there were plently of staff around at each place, too many at some spots. Nearly 100e for 4 of us to go, to get a cadburys hot choc and a sample of ice cream. We paid the 10e for the additional sleigh photo and was given a small, poor quality picture. The whole trip was a real disappointment, even my 4 year old was very sad and disappointed in the trip, she had more fun going to see Santa at a shopping centre where we got our family santa picture.
I emailed Airfield TWICE with my complaint of the christmas experience, No response. Will not be visiting again and will gladly advise anyone who asks about it the same.

Went here yesterday with my two children and partner. Paid 40 euro to get in and what an absolute nightmare joke that is.There is nothing to do.. Kids were bored... The farm is crap and apart from three cows and a goat it's laughable to charge money in here.

Hi Jeff,
I'm sorry to hear you didn't enjoy the visit. We are a working farm, not a petting farm, so I am not sure if you misunderstood what to expect from your visit.
We will take your comments on board and add them to our feedback file for management to review.

The worse Christmas-Santa event ever. Its a rip of 75euro for 2adults and 2kids(2yr old). Origami stand.... What's Christmas's about that, catching fish and pictures with Santa sleigh for 10euro.Santa room was awful smells on dumb and mould, fireplace with wood but not lit up. 0 0 0 0 Christmas atmosphere. Please do not waste your money on this scam.I would not give even that one dot but I had to.

Grandma, daughter, and grandsons loved this day out. Something to suit everyone. The garden probably would be at their best in May but the planting is magnificent. Grasses tickle and spread out along the pathways. There’s saliva of every colour here and texture too. Just under three my grandson loved the trees in front of the house. Despite all the rain here for the last while there were no puddles, so it must have excellent drainage. Good land and even greater farmers played their part there.
Children’s playground is cleverly laid out and challenges the child.
We loved the Jerseys. My daughter couldn’t believe that sheep have horns. What a way the world has changed!
I had a look on their site before heading off this am, I found the information scant. For what it is sell yourselves better.
The house is amazing, one room meanders on to another, I will be googling the architect.
Letitia and Naomi Overend left the estate to the Irish people in 1974 and it’s surely one of our national treasures.
Inside the house, my daughter who is extremely sensitive to vibes, picked up a strong spiritual one.

The new 'world of soil' is amazing. Lots of animals. Estate good value for money as you could spend a whole day here. Easy access to luas and plenty of parking. Plenty of picnic spaces so bring your picnic. Cafes are very expensive €13 for a tea, coffee, croissant and biscuit. No ice cream as advertised.

We visited Airfield with our daughters and young grandchildren. What a brilliant time we had! The adults enjoyed hearing all about the Overend family and seeing the lovely house and cars. Guide was excellent! Everyone loved seeing the animals and the playground and the the garden was beautiful. The sustainable farming is amazing and the restaurant served local produce. A great day out!

My wife and I, plus our daughter and granddaughter, visited for a couple of hours recently. The Estate is easily accessible from Dundrum and there are plenty of car parking spaces. This was our first visit and we were delighted with it. The grounds are huge and beautifully maintained. The flowers and plants were in full bloom and the vegetable gardens were very impressive. It is hard to believe there are only four full time gardeners to keep everything under control, plus two interns, I understand. The hens, donkeys, goats, cows and pigs looked extremely happy with their lot and healthy too. We looked into the Cafe briefly and bought some chocolate peanut biscuit cake to take away. Delicious! Don't forget to visit the Garden Centre too. We will bring a picnic and explore the House on our next visit!

The farm and grounds are well kept and very clean. Some lovely trees to climb in. There weren't many animals though the ones we encountered were friendly (donkeys, sheep and two lambs). Compared to other farms we have visited, there wasn't much to see. The house was interesting but not for kids.
We had lunch in the cafe which was disappointing. It was expensive and the food was a let down, very poor value. We won't be returning.

Hi FionaDeas,
Thank you for visiting us. We're a working farm in the heart of Dundrum with a limited supply of farmland. In order to ensure a year-long food supply for our animals, the numbers are limited and they are also housed indoors during certain times of the year.
I'm sorry to hear you were disappointed with the food, and I'll be sure to pass this on to the team.
Regards,
Rachel

Is there a petting zoo here? And if so what kinds of animals are there to interact with?
Written 26 October 2016
Hi there.
Airfield Estate is a working farm so there is no petting areas. The animals you will see on a walk through include hens, Jersey cows, Saneen goats and Sandy & Black pigs.
