I took 40 students to Richmond Barracks and we all left having had a thoroughly enjoyable experience. Michael, our tour guide, had the kids hanging on his every word. The 1916 experience and graveyard tour were especially interesting.

The Barracks was such a forgotten gem, the staff in particular Niall had such enthusiasm for his subject made it a very worthwhile visit.

Easter 1916: All began here and here took place the trials. A piece if Irish history, specially focused on women that claimed for their rights and for the first time had a role in politics

The visit to Richmond Barracks complements that to Kilmainham Gaol visitor attraction. The two attractions are just 10 minutes apart (walking) and it would be worth visiting the Barracks first then the Gaol. The Barracks 'sets the scene', illustrating particularly the 1916 uprising and events...More
