- Jim CBirmingham, Alabama915 contributionsSmorgasbordOne of the better food markets in Ireland. Great variety of seafood, vegetables, spices, breads, chocolates, and cooked foods. Most vendors give out samples. Worth a visit to get a true Irish feel with many of the locals.Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 16 October 2023
- Jeff NPhoenix, Arizona122 contributionsOlives galore!A great one hour stop, grab some treats and take in the experience! Leave time to walk around Cork shops. Park at the garage near the English Market and you have great walking experiences. I loved the huge selection of olives!Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 30 October 2023
- Andy7419Denver, Colorado4 contributionsInteresting to visitAll the stalls were fun and steeped in rich history. Would definitely recommend for a trip to Cork City but not as much to see as we had hoped. We went by ourselves but I imagine a guided tour would be very interesting. The food there was okay, nothing spectacular. No complaintsVisited November 2023Travelled with familyWritten 12 November 2023

A number of butchers selling pork, beef and lamb - looks as fresh as you can get. The meat stalls are reasonably priced as its for Irish farms.Visited January 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 17 January 2024
- Lara28 contributionsGreat experience and food! This was a fascinating step back in time as far as the venue is concerned but so many foods to try! We ate breakfast upstairs in the restaurant and the food was incredible. It was chilly in there, but they had blankets so no worries! Take the time to see it. It is well worth the time.Visited March 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 1 April 2024
- FyingKiwiChristchurch, New Zealand1,132 contributionsFood PandoraAn amazing food market. Here, among fifty plus stalls, you will likely find amidst the usual, exotic food items that will leave you astounded. While wandering around open mouthed, make this also an excuse to sit down for a moment, and partake of some of the many sumptuous delights available.Visited May 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 31 May 2024

I loved seeing all the fresh fish and seafood. There’s a nice cafe up on the second floor and a wide range of stalls selling all sorts of yummy treats. Not what I expected based on previous reviews. Nothing spectacular or special about it. Its not something I would recommend to a fellow traveller & just finding parking in the City is enough to put anyone off , Many better markets in other towns & Cork was certainly not one of our favourite Cities we visited in Ireland during our 2 week holiday

We always enjoy visiting this market for the great selections of food. We do not live in Cork so we are limited to what we can buy. We visited on a Saturday and it was very very busy and crowded. I did not feel comfortable as most people were not wearing masks. The toilet facilities are very limited. We tried to get a table at the upstairs restaurant but after waiting in line for half an hour we decided to move on.

We are big fans of markets, but we were slighty disappointed with Cork's Market. It was a middlijng market overall. Markets that appeal to lower end shoppers are raw and more interesting. I'm thinking here of the City Market in Lima Peru. Markets that appeal to high end shoppers are striking in another way. I'm thinking here of the Victor Hugo Market in Toulouse France. The Cork Market was right in the middle. Nothing wrong here by any means, but it was just not as photogenic as the others I mentioned. To be clear, we came to photograph not to eat.

I had an excellent experience here. The market is such an interesting place. I loved walking around and seeing all the different products. Of course, things aren’t cheap, but I wasn’t expecting them to be. I highly recommend stopping at Cafe Marius—I had an excellent Irish breakfast there for a reasonable price. The people working were lovely as well. Overall I definitely think the English Market is worth a stop.

Wow! What a fabulous place to visit. The market is bursting with amazing food stalls. Definately go there hungry and grab some lunch or buy some fresh ingredients to take home and cook. We bought filled bagettes from the sandwich stall which were delicious and only 6 euro. There is a great bread stall there too where we bought a fruit soda and an orange and a chocolate cake to take home. If you love food you'll love this place!

We visited this market on our weekend visit to the historic city of cork in June .it’s really great to see markets like this still operate.they have all the produce one can buy.also all goods are fresh ..it’s a great education for the young ones to have.
The best bit for us was the fresh fish traders there.
It’s amazing the choice of fish available.

The public toilets here are terrible. There was only 1 toilet, and the queue took over 15 minutes before we even got inside the loo. If I could leave less than 1 star I would. The place is huge and there is literally only 1 single toilet for the public. And, it's a coin-entry toilet (20c) which isn't obvious until you've already spent 15 minutes in the queue to get there. You'd better hope somebody in the queue has a coin to lend you. The toilet was also dirty, smelly and there was no toilet paper. The whole thing made me so irritable I didn't enjoy the rest of the experience.

We took a walk to find Market Place, where the locals go. Found the fruits and vegetables to be expensive. The chicken was very reasonable and the meats were not too expensive. Very good selection of cheeses and olives. Always interesting to
see what is available in the local market.

Will it be open the first Monday of August (bank holiday)?
Written 4 August 2018
Idk. Sorry, I’m from Austria. You should ask someone from Cork. But I would say, yes! 🙂

Hi, I cannot be 100% certain, but last year it was closed Easter Sunday and Monday, so I'd imagine this year would be the same.

When's the best time to go (ten, noon, four)? Is it better to go when things are the most lively or when it's a little quieter?
Written 9 March 2018
Oh, I have no idea.
We just stopped in Cork on our way from Kilnarey to Dublin.
We got there around noon time (I think). It was crowded on that Wednesday afternoon, but not oppressive.
But I imagine week-ends would be hectic. They have restaurants upstairs and shopping nearby, so I'm sure they stay busy.

Yes there is an excellent bar in a lane way entrance to the market known as the oyster bar. Excellent.

Coming here on a cruise for a total of 7 hours. Is this place walking distance to the port? Also willing to take a taxi to explore.
Written 9 March 2017
It's not within walking distance but a taxi could get you there in 20-30 mins depending on traffic. It's off the main shopping street in Central Cork. The back streets are worth a visit, too. Buskers set up on every corner on a Saturday morning. I heard opera, traditional and contemporary music the weekend I was there.

Are there any types of foods you cannot bring back to the US from Ireland? We were told continuously all through Italy that the sausages and cured meats we bought could be taken back to the states, only to have them confiscated at customs in the US.
Written 10 February 2017
Vacuum packed might get them through, but otherwise no chance.
