A worthwhile visit. Welcoming staff. Informative audio guide.
A 15 minute walk from the centre of Cork. But be aware that signs to the Gaol or moved to point in the wrong direction. I walked way out of my way because I followed a sign that was pointing away from the goal! Thank goodness for a local who redirected me. It is a pity that when I mentioned this at the ticket desk I was told "It happens often, nothing we can do." I too work in a museum and felt the reply should have been "Very sorry, it happens often. I shall get onto the council immediately and ask for the sign to be correctly positioned." Other than that, I though the two ladies greeting visitors on entering the gaol were welcoming, helpful and very enthusiastic. The goal interesting. The audio trail informative. As it was pouring with rain I didn't look round the grounds outside of the gaol. Well worth a visit.

    Very informative and exciting!
Cork City Gaol is definitely worth a visit - and I highly recommend the audio tour (available in many languages)! It has been impressively restored and refurbished with great attention to detail. And although it is designed for tourists, who often want to hear gruesome stories, the respect for the prisoners is not lost. We loved it there!

    Well worth a visit.....
Well worth a visit! It is a fair distance from the city if you wanted to walk it. Fortunately I was driving & was pleased to see plenty of parking. It is a fascinating place with it's history. I liked the detailed leaflet that I read while I wandered around the gaol. I was too late/early for the guided tour & I didn't want to try the audio tour. I would certainly recommend it if you are fascinated by the history of prison life.

Absolutely brilliant place and great visit....do the guided tour if you can
We are not usually ones for guided tours but we just arrived with one starting in five minutes so thought why not. So glad we did as Chloe was brilliant. We knew it was going to be good when she said if we didn't like it at any time, we could drift off. Of course no one did. She brings the whole experience to life. It really is a fascinating place and superbly renovated. Great displays in the cells , some of them scarily realistic. You can get the bus from town, about 15 minutes, and then its downhill to the gaol, and then just go further downhill walking to get back to town if you want. If you are in Cork, for us this would be a 'Must visit'. There is a small radio museum here too, which is very interesting too as a bonus.

Really interesting. Good price. I recommend getting the audio tour if going solo, gave a lot of information, it was quite entertaining. Staff were friendly and helpful.

- it is an old gaol building so can be cold during winter.
- Steep-ish walk to the gaol, so recommend a taxi for anyone with breathing issues after exertion.

We enjoyed touring round and found the audio guide one of the bet we had used. There was plenty to see and quiz and video presentation also held our attention.
Enjoyed the Radio Museum and account by Marconi upstairs too.

The number of tourist attractions and things to do in Cork is a bit limited particularly, in a time when all the wet pubs are closed due Covid. However, the old Cork City gaol is well worth a visit. Very informative visuals and audio visuals to help you get a feel for what it was like when it was a functioning gaol.

We were lucky enough to have our wedding ceremony at the cork city gaol, yes it may seem like an odd venue but it is an option on their site and turned out to be the best choice! I worked with Sarah via email to plan our day and she went above and beyond to make our day perfect! We had the entire west wings to ourselves for 2 hours and they set up everything for us.

Secondly we had a group of 18 coming with us from the USA for our wedding, Sarah set us up with a guided tour the day before our wedding. The history of the Gaol was so interesting and the guided tour allowed us to ask all the questions, the adults and kids really enjoyed it! I would highly recommend visiting the Gaol!

I don't know why but I expected a lot less of an experience when we started the tour. What an amazing a day we had! The staff were unbelievably friendly, the gaol itself was incredibly evocative thanks to the personable stories and the historical restoration. It is close to the city centre and easy to find. Definitely a jewel in Cork's crown. Highly recommended.

I was really struck by the beautiful building as we entered the Cork City Gaol. My daughter and I visited in February and we were well impressed, we did the tour ourselves with headphones and it was fantastic. My goodness they had a dreadful time in Jail back then. It is very well set up and the the information is very well presented. We spend almost two hours and went back over a few things. It’s well worth a visit, and definitely put it on your list when you visit. It’s well preserved, and well thought out.

Walked here from the city centre, great views over the city. This is a little gem of cork history and although it is beautifully kept now, i would imagine, conditions were harsh when the prison was open. Great interaction and informative. Lovely little gist shop.
