There's a walled-off swimming hole that would be great for kids or people who want to swim without waves and of course plenty of wave-ful beach for everyone else. There's a nice path that seems to go for a ways and showers and bathrooms and whatnot. Lots of picnic benches and places to sit both in the sun and in... More

There is a very long beach, mid-point between Lihue and Kaapa. There is an enclosed swimming area that is protected from the surf but still has some fish in it to snorkel. Big picnic area with a large child's play fort and a covered (rentable?) covered area. On the north point there are the ruins of an old, pre-christian temple... More

Lots of sand and space to spread out. We spent an hour or so on the beach our first afternoon staying nearby. Nice amenities, include restrooms, picnic area and outdoor wash areas.

If you want to entertain little kids, Lydgate is amazing. We are right across from the two protected sea pools, staying at the Hilton Garden Inn. Literally, a walk out the back door to the beach and huge wooden playground structure. It's not deserted for sure, but nowhere nearly as crowded as our nearest dirty mainland beaches. Lydgate as a... There's lots of children here. It's very safe place to snorkel since it's enclosed. If you don't like crowds, skip this place. If you have kids, it's a must. I saw lots of large fish, very large school of beautiful fish so I was happy.

I love skinnydipping more than anything and I have done it several times at this beach but truthfully it's too easy to get caught and people give me weird looks. Be careful.

Pros: The rock barrier tempers the waves so that the area is more like a pool. So, there are two natural pools. Nice for kiddos. There's also a place for surfing too. Cons: Soooo many plastic bottle caps and tiny plastic pieces all over the place. In summary, there are better beaches on the island with more to offer and... More

Snorkeling and keeping kids safe at the beach? Yes, please!! That is exactly what this place offered. We saw enough beautiful fish to keep my kids really happy here.
