My kids loved this place!!

Snorkeling and keeping kids safe at the beach? Yes, please!! That is exactly what this place offered. We saw enough beautiful fish to keep my kids really happy here.

Pros: The rock barrier tempers the waves so that the area is more like a pool. So, there are two natural pools. Nice for kiddos. There's also a place for surfing too. Cons: Soooo many plastic bottle caps and tiny plastic pieces all over the place. In summary, there are better beaches on the island with more to offer and... More

We ventured over to Lydgate when the waters at Poipu Beach were too dangerous and the lifeguards would not allow swimming. Lydgate is a great family beach with restrooms, showers and picnic areas. There's adequate parking, too. It's protected by a rock wall, so there are no big waves. Although there aren't a large assortment of fish, there are enough... More

It was January when we visited Kauai and on days with high surf we were looking for somewhere where the kids could still snorkel and have fun. We did have a great time as there is a rock wall that provides protection from the waves that has plenty of fish for them to get interested and started snorkeling. We loved... More

The snorkeling behind the rock barrier provides an easy snorkeling adventure for all levels. There are puffer fish and the usual reef fish gathered primarily by the rocks. The beach outside the protected area is beautiful and great for decent sized surf.

Excellent man made snorkel site. It's protected, meaning the surf won't get you. Not a huge assortment of fish but usually holds a good amount of fish. Very shallow, great for kids and adults. Easy access.

This is one of my most favourite beach areas in Kauai. It has tons of picnic tables, a wonderful playground, paved walking path, toilet facilities, garbage cans, shade and green space. The beach is very sandy and scenic. Great for large groups.

Safe swimming and snorkeling for kids and newbies. Decent facilities and a nearby playground. One of our favorites on the trips.

Safe swimming can be hard to come by in the ocean around Kauai in the winter, so this is a great spot. There are two pools, one within the other. One is quite shallow, perfect for babies and toddlers. The other is deeper but protected, and stocked with fish, so this is a perfect location for first-time snorkelers. There's also... More

Lydgate beach boasts two sheltered swimming pool areas near the river outlet. The rocks were put in to provide safe swimming versus open seas. It is a fine place to swim and there are fish to see if you snorkel keeping in mind it is not a natural reef. The beach and pools seemed to collect natural and manmade debris... More
