I always think its a shame that there aren't many lighthouses that you can go up anymore so sometimes the locations aren't very interesting. This is certainly not the case here. If you are afraid of heights you might want to stay well clear of...More

Great place to see. Do go along the path on the left to the whale watching station on the top. Amazing views and a good chance (if the sea is calm) of seeing some whales. Marvellous views even without any whales.

Numerous visits over the years and a recent one in rain and wind. I am. Never disappointed by the red brick of the lighthouse itself. To stand and look up at the vastness of the structure without any obstruction, except nature and a steep cliff,...More

I hate heights, I truly do. In this instance there is no actual ascending the lighthouse, but the cliffs which surround it are sheer and CLOSE to the actual structure. My fear of falling kicked in as I watched visitors creep closer and closer to...More

I love lighthouses and this is one of the best I have ever seen. It is in a gorgeous location and has been well preserved/cared for. It was so quiet and serene and the drive was wonderful getting to it, also! A must see :-)

A bit of a drive to get to the Butt from Stornoway – but the views, scenery and beaches were well worth it! Despite it being early August the roads were not busy – and it was lovely to see the wilder areas of Lewis...More

It is stunning due to the cliffs but be warned ..... you are there at your own risk. No safety barriers - no information - just you, cliffs, a lighthouse. No facilities at all!!! Parking is free and come as you are.

A short walk from the Butt of Lewis harbour with fascinating bird life. Great to see the gannets diving.

Go to the lighthouse to see one of the lighthouses built by the famous Stevenson family. Don't expect to go inside because it's not open. But do take the time to walk along the coastline. It's gorgeous. The drive up goes through barren, sheep-filled fields...More
