Iolaire sails twice daily from Iona at 9.45am or1.45pm OR from Fionnphort at 10am or 2pm. The trip lasts 3 hours and you can get on or off at Fionnphort or Iona. The Iolaire is a brown wooden boat and returns to Fionnphort first at 1pm or 5pm and then to Iona 10 minutes later. The sea journey takes 45 minutes and en route a wide variety of sea life may be observed. Once at Staffa a commentary is given and Fingal's Cave can be seen from the Iolaire. Passengers are landed weather permitted and given at lease one hour ashore which allows time to walk into Fingal's Cave or up the ladders to see the puffins when they are in season. There is always something exciting to see and the crew will be happy to welcome you on board the Iolaire.

A 3 hour trip to Staffa. Easy to book online. Friendly team on board. An exhilarating crossing (made more pleasant by loan of huge waterproofs) and a fantastic hour exploring Staffa and Fingals Cave on foot. Would recommend, our 8y and 4y olds really enjoyed...More

Thanks for mentioning the waterproofs which are a new addition and folks have been finding them very useful lately with the unsettled weather. It was great that the children enjoyed the experience too. Thank you for coming on Iolaire.

Was so glad that you enjoyed the fish at the St Columba which is caught locally by one of the part time crew on the Iolaire who has a wee fishing boat, the Lucy Lou! Thanks for coming on the Full Day Tour from Oban.

Great time with a special personal touch. Small group leaving early for a full day with Archie. Archie, being a local and related to the captain, we felt looked after. Flagged over on our drive across Mull by a friend to see an amazing white...More

Thank you so much we could not ask for a better review but please be aware that the rough days are not for everyone! For all the rest the heavy duty raincoats are at the ready.

We booked a trip over the phone for a family of 4 (2xA, 2xc) plus our friendly Labrador, Arthur, for the 12th August. Booking was trivial and the lady was very friendly and helpful and assured us that taking Arthur would be no trouble. Booking...More

Davie remembers Arthur getting on the boat and Arthur on the boat and Arthur getting off the boat. Thanks for taking him with you, we like labradors and thanks for the advice too.

After a bit of web searching, I chose Iolaire of Iona because this was owned and skippered by a local 'boy' who had owned the boat for approximately 25 years and running cruises to Staffa for at least 40 years! Yes you can go on...More

Thanks for your kind comments, we do try to make sure that everyone who travels on Iolaire gets to see anything on the way that is of interest and generally the seals can be relied on to assist us. Glad you enjoyed the trip.

An highlight of our trip in the Scottish Islands! Even though the journey was quite like a roller coaster, it was worth it! The island is fantastic, the caves really impressive and the puffins so cute!

This is a good question as there are steep cliffs at Staffa, however there is a stairway with hand rails to access the top of the island. Fortunately you don't have to go up there at all if you don't want to. To access the... More
